I just tend to look at them, with what my husband calls my 'Paddington Bear Hard Stare'. No words necessary, and it is enough to stun most people into silence and a hasty retreat.

You are quite right about the rain and cold. Although I did say 'not cold by Finnish standards'. I think that can include Norway too. I quite like the rain too, except by the end of winter, whn I have bee dealing with it very day on the farm. It's one thing to go out in the rain in town, but quite another to be throwing out hay to the animals, and getting covered in mud, and having bits of hay and haydust stick to you because you're soaked with rain.

I'm still having login problems. Honestly, if I have to log in once it is too much for me, it distracts me from what I was going to say. And if I get it twice, most likely I'll just close the page and go somewhere else.

Moooms, I have a lovely milk jug I bought in Knysna at one of the charoty shops there, and it has the following inscription:
Albergo Appennino Castiglione dei Pepoli, which means it comes from a Albergo Appennino in the town of that name in the Apennines. It caught my eye at once when I saw it!

Our winters are generally quite mild especially along the coast and the days can be pleasent, but the cold fronts bring unwelcome wind. I guess our winters are the mildest of anyone here such as Skilpadde, Krabo and most others, with the possible exception of Sylkat. But it's been so dry there that Californians are getting paid to get pet camels!

I've been browsing the net trying to find at least a partial answer to this login problem thingy. I'm getting to think it is a cookie-related issue. However, since I had precisely the same problem which mysteriously disappeared after Alex upgraded the forums and because I have not changed my cookie settings, there must be something else involved. Maybe the phenomenon is selective, in which case these forums should be set NOT to use cookies.

Especially Firefox has dozens of privacy-related options in the Tools menu. Some clever combination of them might help but because I'm no expert in the field, I cannot go into details.

Some other ideas. -- Are you simultaneously logged in to other sites, Google or Duolingo, for example? Just log out. You got AdBlock? Enable it on wrongplanet.net.

At least, if I have AdBlock disabled on wrongplanet.net, everything happens way slower.

As a last resort, see this, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fi ... -passwords
Even if you shouldn't be on Firefox, the instructions have general importance.

^ What, you think I'm not admirable? :P

Enviro, Albergo Appennino means Apennines Hotel (the Apennines being the mountain range that runs down the length of Italy). I guess Castiglione dei Pepoli is the nearest village / town.

That's one of the things I love about charity shops. Who would guess that a jug from Italy would end up in your hands in SA. 8)

Krabo, that all looks frighteningly technical. I don't know how most of that works on my ipad. My last few messages have gone through okay, but I do get some days like that. It seems so random. I am often logged into at least one other site. Do I have to log out of that (it's all this logging in and out that is annoying me) or is it enough to close that page while I have WP open? I don't have Adblock, but I don't like the sound of things going slower.

I see, you're on iPad. Which I know nothing about. End of that story. You do, I'm sure, have a desktop comp too? If not, ever considered getting one?

AdBlock is one of the best free Firefox applications ever published. Farewell to ads and unnecessary pop-ups. -- Out of sheer curiosity, would you please get somehow connected to WP using a desktop + Firefox + AdBlock, and report to the whole Universe what happens.

I do have a desktop. I use it for work, but it is in my (cold) office. I prefer my ipad, which I can use from the comfort of the couch.

Next time I have to turn on my computer for some work (probably Monday), I'll try to remember to log onto WP from there, and see if it makes any difference.

Yep, I'm real chatty! :P

You live on a farm? Cool. I may not have minded that for myself if I hadn't been real allergic to hay, pollen and furry friends (skin reddening and itching, nose & eyes running, sneezing, and worst of all asthma attacks). Between that and a certain law here... don't get me started...
I can def see how it sticking to you would get annoying.

My city was built on swampland so some areas are kinda swampy. There are a couple of places nearby that are never dry, regardless of weather. Mud is fine in small doses, but not too much. Slippery stuff... Viggo once pulled on his leash when we were on a muddy path and despite him not being all that strong, the slippery mud made me fall. He turned and looked at me, then ran towards me, cheerful, seemingly thinking we were playing. I wasn't amused at the time. I miss him and my turtles so much! They were the best.

You're easily distracted too? I find that whenever I do anything, the smallest thing can distract me and I'm too easily starting to procrastinate and one link lead to another and...
When I write or speak, I'll easily forget so much of what I meant to say.

Yeah, I like being on a farm. Lots of space, very few people around us, and even they keep their distance. Of course, I'm lucky enough not to suffer from allergies. It wouldn't be much fun here if I did.

I'm easily distracted on things that I am not so interested in, or things that are routine. But get me started on one of my special interests and you could march a brass band past me and I probably wouldn't notice. :P

The North Island of NZ is almost cut in two pieces, only a narrow isthmus near Auckland keeps it together. This I didn't know before the era of Google maps.

Correct. And it can cause terrible traffic jams, because in some places there is really only one way to go, there's not enough land to have alternative routes. If there is an accident on the Auckland Harbour Bridge, all hell breaks loose. Thankfully I don't have to get involved in that. I feel sorry for people who commute through that area every day.

The situation sure looks problematic. Downtown Auckland happens to be on the wrong side of the isthmus. Not even a tunnel would be of much help. I guess you need an American consultant, they are famous for bringing cars anywhere, or a Siberian consultant, they are famous for driving without roads.

Hi all,

Auckland sounds so much like Seattle with the isthmus problem that it's not even funny! It actually sounds worse, too--in Seattle we at least have two bridges going east over the lake as an outlet, in addition to the highways that run north-south through the isthmus. And we are starting to get more tunnels and transit, if all goes well.

What about ferries? Does Auckland have any that carry traffic across the bays?

Sounds great. That's why I like cities; people keep their distance, despite physical proximity.

TBH, I'm easily distracted whenever I'm not in hyperfocus. Even when I watch/listen to/ read something I'm interested in, I'm very easily distracted by external distractions, my own thoughts, and my own reactions to something said in the program/ text. I've missed out on a lot as a result. When watching something on DVD or YouTube or reading a text in front of me, I can just re-read or rewind. In other cases, what I missed out on, is lost.

I meant to ask but I forgot. You said you just give people your 'Paddington Bear Hard Stare'. I haven't seen the Paddington movie, but I read the books when I was little, and I remember him as cute, not a bear of hard stares. Enlighten me please? What have I forgotten about him?

If Wrong Planet was a city, it would be an industrial city where people work and don't socialize.
