The phenomenon you are referring to is called synchronism. Sometimes it appears that separate phenomena are interconnected in a mysterious way. As far as I know, the whole thing is poorly understood.

Which would have been the topic of a. Best-selling novel by Michael Crichton, if he had lived long enough to know of

the discovery of such a rare species.

We need more pictures of them, if any wildlife photographer is brave enough to look for them.
