Napoleon was not actually short. The misinformation is the result of English propaganda. The basis was the difference in how the English and the French numbered shoe sizes at the time (the French used smaller numbers).

when the executioner slapped marie Antoinette's freshly amputated head, witnesses said she blushed for several seconds.

The Mississippi is 2320 miles long.

PS: Am I doing this right?

PSS: I'm now doubting myself and feeling the need to fact check this.

sure ya betcha! :thumleft: though you could make your facts a bit more obscure [less findable on google]. for example, only hardcore beatles fans know that john lennon recorded the vocals for the fast version of "revolution" while lying on his back on the studio floor.
BTW, welcome to WP 8)

Scanned over the word obscure. Will now attempt to make up for it.

Winston Churchill made a very successful speech that is now most well known as "We Shall Fight on the Beaches" in 1940 before the Fall of France. While this speech was very successful in boosting morale, Churchill himself was not optimistic and supposedly followed this speech with a murmured comment about how they'll be fighting with broken beer bottles because it is all that they have.

and thanks :)

prego :) there is a persistent rumor that Churchill did not read his "we shall never surrender" speech [originally presented to parliament] for the BBC, that it was radio actor norman shelley. but in fact the speech itself was never broadcast except in excerpts [by a staff BBC announcer who was NOT norman shelley] later that evening. several years later Churchill recorded a version for decca records, not specifically for broadcast.

John Wayne's grave was unmarked for twenty years because his family feared that political readicals, particularly Vietnam War protesters would vandalize it.

at the time of his death, john wayne was working on a movie entitled "beau john" which would have been a departure for his normal material, it was based on an unpublished novel by buddy Atkinson, and would have had wayne star as the patriarch of a 1920s Kansas clan. but death got to him before he could act on it [bad pun].

John Wayne survived lung cancer in 1964, and went on to live another 15 years. I was amazed to discover this, as I thought this form of the disease would have been incurable at that time.

Also didn't realize he was a freemason (until 5 minutes ago!).

The producer for some of U2's most famous albums, an excellent musician in his own right, used to be involved with this band:

 It would have been a fun project to be involved in, I'd have done it too if I were him. :P The producer in question of course is Brian Eno. Maybe he's the one you can hear playing the bassoon more or less perfectly, behind all the violinists and flautists who sound like they're butchering pigs.

Oh, I think I know what the problem is there; I edited my original post to play the Blue Danube Waltz after you quoted me, which I liked because it was more clumsy-sounding and has all the instruments coming in right away, which means readers here don't have to wait to hear what all the fuss is about. You can hear a bassoon pretty clearly in that one, but not at all in Also Sprach Zarathustra. 8)
