Very simple If you've ever played a text adventure or interactive fiction game. If you have you might very well be old, like me.

Instructions

One person types a text 'command'. The next person writes what the result of that action is. And so on and so forth.

Examples

Person 1: You are in an alley, you see a badger, a trashcan and a fire escape ladder.

Person 2: Climb ladder

Person 3: You climb the ladder and find yourself standing next to an open window leading into someone's apartment. There is a woman in a state of undress shrieking.

Person 4: Climb back down ladder

Person 5: You climb back down the ladder. You are back in the alley. You hear distant police sirens.

etc.

Commands

A short list of common commands you could use

This is by no means all the commands you can use, just a few examples.

You can make your actions and descriptions as elaborate or as simple as you like.

I'll set us up with a simple scenario:

You are sitting in a dingy bar in a rough part of town. Dim afternoon light trickles in through filthy windows. There is a bored looking barmaid and a few grim looking regulars. There is a pina colada sitting on the unstable table in front of you. There are exits to the north and the east.

What do you want to do?_

Take the North Exit.

You approach the northern exit and begin disassembling the barricade. You're too drunk to remember why it's there, but the threats of several irate, gun-brandishing bar-goers give you the impression that it must be important. Before returning to your seat, you hastily repair the damage and claim that you were merely adjusting a misplaced bar stool.

Take the Eastern Exit

You go down a dark narrow corridor, to the fire exit. It is blocked by a pile of rubbish and padlocked.

Slowly clears away the rubbish.

You clear away the pile of rubbish, and find a padlock key as you do so.

Unlocks door

you unlock the door to find that it isnt actually a door at all, rather, some kind of portal.

Touch portal surface

You hear something growling from the other side.

put on with various knifes, armor, and guns then step throw portal.

You notice a large dog-like creature staring at you in the eyes.

attack large, dog like creature, using the various knives and guns found earlier.

You raise your weapons with which to attack the 'dog'. Sensing your aggression, the dog suddenly disappears in a puff of orange smoke. Your stumble forwards as your initial knife stab hits thin air. There's no sign of where the dog went to.
