We're going to create a grand unified special interest.
Here's how it works. One person writes a sentence or few (no more than a paragraph, I think) about some aspect of their special interest. The person below them must somehow connect this special interest to their own.
For instance, someone interested in Link Wray would write something like:
Quote:
Link used to punch holes in his speaker cones to achieve that raw distorted sound, the basics of punk 20 years before punk existed.
CockneyRebel, Kinks fan that we know, would feel compelled to write something like:
Quote:
Dave Davies used to slice his speaker cones to achieve a similar effect.
The next poster, perhaps with an interest in digital signal processing or physics, would briefly state the reason why a damaged speaker cone produces such distortion.
I'll start:
Computational complexity is the mother of all other sciences. It gives us the ability to provably confirm whether we are speaking to a god (they could solve an NP-time problem in P-time, and we can determine this in less than 20 bits of information.), and the ability to understand why the laws of physics are structured the way they are. It is arguably the basis of information theory, which itself is woven into everything from political debate to the smallest quantum chromodynamic interaction. I dare anyone to name such a nodal subject, sitting like Azahoth in the center of infinite chaos (except with far better manners and conversation skills).
