I very much like optical illusions, and wondered if anyone else likes them too.

Below is my favourite. It is an animated dot which goes around and around.
Stare at the + in the middle, and you'll probably see the pink dots dissapear & be replaced by a green one that goes in a clockwise direction:

What is your favourite optical illusion?

Fascinating. How would this be explained scientifically?

I could look at that all day.

I'd better not though.

I like the rabbit/duck illusion, because I liked how it can be looked at in two different ways.

Maybe this isn't really an illusion, but Hatsune Miku is a singing hologram that performs 'live' onstage.

Her appearance is obviously Anime (blue hair, big eyes, small mouth, too-long legs, et cetera), but crowds go crazy over her.

Sorry, can't link YouTube videos from work.

This is the cover to Animal Collective's album Merriweather Post Pavilion, based on optical illusion design work done by Akiyoshi Kitaoka. The leaf pattern appears to move, even though it is completely stationary.

Hi GGPViper,

At first I didn't believe that square A & B are the same colour, so I opened it in paint, and used the eye-dropper tool to select the colour from B, and then drew on square A. Indeed they are both the same colour.
I liked that one.

I am always happy to entertain. :D

It is a stark reminder of the fallibility of the human mind.

Here is a video demonstration. Boggles the mind...

Hi Fnord,

I went to the page via the link you provided. You are right that it isn't an illusion, but seeing as you posted something auditory, here is my second favourite illusion; it is an auditory one.

Play this clip once taking note of the increasing pitch. Now play it again, and the pitch appears to be increasing from the end of the first time you played it.
