Okay, so this is basically the thread for the old Dungeons and Dragons when it was just a bunch of guys at a table and one of them commanded everything and then one of them got slain by a ghost, then they would all strangle each other. I'm not going to be the Dungeon Master. Once we have 3 more people, 2 of them players and a Dungeon Master.

Is this like a serious D&D thread, or are we just horsing around? :P

Well, it's the old rule-light Dungeons and Dragons. It's discontinued now, but you don't need anything to play it. Just get some people and you're all set.

That's good. One of my friends has my dad's old AD&D 1st edition books, but they're not close at hand right now.

I wasn't actually going to grab his books, I'm too lazy to do that. :P Although, I've seen bits of the D&D first edition books before, are you sure you can DM without them? What are we supposed to do for character sheets?

You have never played Original Dungeons and Dragons? It's like the best version! Like, you can make your character the guy from Kings Quest eating a grilled cheese sandwich! In fact, my character is Sir Grahame eating a grilled cheese sandwich.

The one time I actually played D&D, it was AD&D 1st edition, and my character was a guy who got sucked into a D&D scenario from the real world. :P AD&D is still pretty flexible, and according to my dad, it's really just an improvement on the original formula. They only started bastardizing it with the later editions.

So are you talking the very first original D&D where the only real rules were the ones the DM made up as he went along using the tiny original booklets? If so, than I want to play as a 3 foot tall stocky human magic user who gets pissed off al the time because everyone thinks he is a dwarf who should be wearing armor.

I still have those tiny booklets in a box somewhere. The titles were something like "Men and Magic" and "Treasure and Monsters" and "Underworld and Wild Adventures." I bought them at a Goodwill when I was little for a handful of change. I think they still used the word hobbit instead of halfling and ent instead of treant.
