Here are five reasons I want to do Cosplay starting this year:

1. To portray a character I grew up with and/or currently like right now.

2. To give my facebook page and fan page a HUGE boost in popularity.

3. To meet with famous Cosplayers such as Yaya Han, Monika Lee, Valerie Perez, Jean Gomez, Victoria Schmidt and many others.

4. Befriending other people who have the same or simliar interest in Cosplay, comic books, pop culture, etc.

5. A perfect way to meet single women who are into Cosplay as well

Good luck! My only advice to you would be to not get discouraged if you don't get everything on your wish list. You've listed a lot of expectations prior to the initiation of a cosplay event, but when you go practice, having fun with whatever it is that will be role played within your group is worth it. I wish I could come along -- sounds like fun!
