I guess this makes sense. I usually don't like saying things like I'm a generous or kind person simply because it sounds like I'm blowing my own horn. I guess in that respect I tend to be a bit too modest. However, everyone tells me that I am, even though I say things like it's "no big deal" or "just doing my duty as a friend, citizen, etc."

I guess in my mind if I acknowledge these compliments and think of myself that way, then I will have reached my goal and will stop striving for kindness and generosity. By saying things like this I'm telling myself that there's room for improvement, that I could be even kinder and more generous. I dunno, I like compliments, but when I do something good it never seems like a big deal to me. I'm not doing it for compensation, appearances, or to secure my spot in Heaven. I'm doing it because I feel like it and because it needs to be done.

Apart from being stubborn and not ready to be an adult, this is not true of me. (I do dream of faraway lands, but not of going there, of writing about them.) I hate trouble, I'm not very mischievous, I'm not particularly brave, and I'd much rather stay with what's safe than go on adventures. For me what's safe is research, talking on forums, etc. Going out and interacting face-to-face is scary, and actually producing something for others to evaluate is even scarier. Even my stubbornness comes out of fear - fear that I'll lose myself if I let someone else control me.

No surprise but an interesting note is that when I was single I wanted to find a woman like Cinderella who needed someone to take care of her.
