What if lycanthropy (in this case, werewolfism) is a spectrum?
I prescribe to that theory; thus, I crafted this little assessment:

http://www.helloquizzy.com/tests/lycanthropy-quotient

Feel free to post your results and discuss their possible implications.

My results:

Lycanthropy-20
Non-Lycanthropy-19

Result:

Quote:
Your Lycanthropy Quotient Is 11!
(You also scored 19 on Non-Lycanthropic; do what you wish with this, or disregard this completely).

The range of the Lycanthropy Quotient is 0 to 56; deduce what you will of this in terms of you having a high or low Lycanthropy Quotient.

(The score range of the Non-Lycanthropic factor is 0-44; if you manage to score highly on both or lowly on both, then that likely means that you are a bit peculiar for your species, whatever you species happens to be. Hey, many of the greatest thinkers and achievers are peculiar!)

Since all of these traits test some degree of abnormality from the human condition, scoring above zero would, in theory, constitute some degree of abnormality. However, every human being is abnormal in some manner, and many human beings are abnormal in several manners. Again, deduce what you will from this test.

I hope that the test entertained you in some capacity.Thank you for your time.

I apologize to any werewolves, lycans, or otherwise wolfen creatures I may have offended with the inaccuracies present in this assessment.

I wish! Being a shapeshifter would have been so cool! Anyone else really wish that were-creatures, vampires, dragons and pixies etc were real?

I'm still not entirely convinced that they're not real; it is nearly impossible to prove that something does not exist, and I have yet to see compelling evidence to suggest their non-existence (sure, I've never encountered one, but I've also never encountered Paris, the moon, monorails, or chocolate-covered ants, yet those all exist. On a more serious note, we have not even mapped out the entire ocean floor or have uncovered every civilization possible; we are still learning about new islands and new communities every day. It is not impossible that the above species live in an area that we simply have not encountered yet).

Very true, and the way I look at it, we've actually confirmed that a lot of "mythical" creatures exist, we just didn't think it was a big deal afterwards because we came to understand them as part of the natural world. Narwhals, giant squid, giant crabs, giant clams, Coelocanths, Vampire Squid from Hell... I mean really, Jellyfish are pretty weird as it is. Mermaids turned out to be Sea Lions etc. So all these things were real, we just understood their nature differently.

Maybe we'll even find Sasquatch one day, and it will basically just be another Great Ape to us, feral and elusive.

Lycanthropic: 34
Non-lycanthropic: 5

But I'm sure someone would have noticed if there was a wolf wandering around the town.

Those are very good points; the "mythical" loses its mythicality once it can be explained by science.
Or, just maybe, science is more magical than most people give it credit for being.

But that's taking the very brass assumption that people would get off of their iPhones and computers long enough to take note of such a thing...

In all sincerity, though, some of the theories on lycanthropes claim that werewolves remain sapient in their wolf form; it may be possible, then, that they, if they were to exist, would have the intelligence to stay hidden by moving in their wolf form in the dead of night and by possibly locking themselves inside of their houses otherwise.

Yeah and that would likely hold true for vampires too. Both vampires and werewolves could then easily hide in plain sight if they existed. If they were really bright they could even cooperate: the vampires would start with the blood and then the werewolves could eat, thus destroying the evidence. There are still Norwegians who claim to have seen "tussen" (a gnome-like creature in folklore), and while I can't say that I believe them, I very much would love it if these creatures were proven to exist.

We can always hope!
