People can buy small, one-mile-across islands for a few thousand bucks, and then it's totally theirs. As in, they have complete sovereignty, and can even become their own official country. Then, they don't have to pay any taxes, or be in any way subservient to any existing government, unless they choose to create their own.

Should we all pitch-in for the purchase of "Aspie Island", (or "Aspergia")? We could decide on our form of government -- that is, if we don't prefer anarchy. The point is it's totally up to us!
If we choose to have government officials, we can elect them from here, or other Aspie forums. Haha, wouldn't THAT be the ultimate poll?! ! "Whom would you wish as our leader?" Such a poll should include the option of "No one", for the anarchists.

We can decide on a currency (called the "asp" or something), and we can open our borders to the emigration of fellow Aspies around the world. We'd need some foreign language experts, but that should be no problem, as some WP members already speak several languages.

Other ideas??

It's a valid idea, but where would we get the money?

I'm not sure living with each other full time would work - lets keep it a virtual world, where we all have our own space...

I strongly agree with asplanet. When I was in college I had to write a paper about whether or not the Deaf community should establish a "Deaf village". This is VERY SIMILAR to that idea. My answer is NO. Let's live apart but be in touch thru sites like WP.

No. If I lived with no-one but Aspies 24/7 I'd go insane. Variety is the spice of life, you know?

ehhh, i need my variety of people. i'd like an aspie vacation island but not an actual community. we'd probably all go crazy if we lived together.

I was thinking "ourselves", as it's only a few thousand bucks, but if that's a dumb answer, we can find some other way of raising it. But really, that's one of the last questions needed to be asked, given the sheer monumentality of the proposition. I mean, strategic organization and planning should be the top priority to arrange for.

Do note where I posted this, inasmuch as it's a whimsical idea. Not that it wouldn happen, but for now it's just a fun brainstorming exercise. I mean, starting your own country... doesn't it give you chills?! ! Of course, the laws, if there be any, would have to be heavy on Aspie care, like no singling someone out in public if they're too shy, etc. The phrase "Leave me alone" could be first on our Constitution as a protected human right, so that whoever uses this phrase MUST be left alone as they've requested.

We could have people running for office, campaigning on WP, for President of Aspergia, complete with platform slogans, etc.

Some days we can barely get along on a web forum. :)

Excellent.

We'd need one helluva giant-economy-size island, though, I'm guessin.' :D

Excellent.

The penalty for reactionary homicide would be reduced in cases where one's requested solitude has been violated.

It all depends on the number of us, but ya, we'd probably need either a bigger island or multiple small islands. Then again, a square mile is darn big, for each of us to have our own private house and land -- depending on how greedy we are.

But it's interesting that some Aspies have already declared here, in no uncertain terms, that they need NT society. Wow! :o That's quite a revelation, considering how much we complain about NTs.
I guess "No Aspie community is an island". (I'm assuming you've heard the interdependence expression "No man is an island.")

I suppose the perfect Aspie island for us all would have to be an online virtual reality -- once the technology comes along for fully interactive lifelike VR. Because Aspies like when life has an "Off" switch. You can just remove the headset & brain sensors whenever you want to leave Aspie World.

The people who complain about any particular thing are typically small in number but very vocal, though I've heard rumor of a user called "a lot of people" who agrees with everything they say.

We need to all chip in and buy it! Should we start a thread for donors?
