In psychology, there are "effects", as in cause-and-effect. A famous example would be the Sylvia Plath effect, or the finding that female poets are prone to mental illness.

So, here's an idea: name one after yourself! I'll be thinking of mine!

Wouldn't that also be Emily Bronte effect? Wasn't she the one that spent the last years of her life standing up pressed against a table? She was found dead still in that position.

I never heard of Emily Bronte doing that. Sounds like schizophrenia.

It was named after Sylvia Plath probably because she's more recent and notorious. And from what I know, Plath was much more of a poet than a novelist. And the study found creative writers in general and female poets in particular are more prone to these sort of problems. Thus, Plath was probably more apprioate. But, hey, you could call it the Emily Bronte effect.

Has anyone thought about naming an effect yet?

The Alex Rose Effect: Adults who have great difficulty coping emotionally and/or psychologically in the real world abandon real world responsibilities in order to live vicariously through imagined, fantasy lives.

Compare with "Walter Mitty character".

That's a good one. I've seen it in other people myself.

The John Parsons effect- the tendency for creative people to be very intense. And they use that energy to be bold not with just art, but everything else, too.

The Fnord Syndrome is a personality disorder characterized by unceasingly skeptical inquiry, deep knowledge on a vast array of unrelated topics (the Rennaissance Effect), difficulties in social interaction typified by the induction of feelings of confusion, frustration, and hostility in others, and complete confidence in being correct. FS is distinguished from other personality disorders in having no psychopathic or sociopathic characteristics.

The LiE effect: The ability to imagine something in one form of representation (sounds, writing, a certain language, images) but being unable to convert it easily even though said conversion would be trivial. Example: imagining the answer to the question as text on the blackboard because assuming that's where you'll have to repesent it and then be utterly struggling to transfer it to speech even though it required nothing but reading from the mental blackboard.

Hmm... if this sucks, my apologies. Here goes: -

Sam Cooper Effect: Takes everything that affects oneself to heart. Hates working - feels humiliated at the prospect of it. Stubborn as hell, but loyal in a strong albeit peculiar way to those you can trust a lot.
