I have been in IT for 20 years, have social dyslexia issues, flap and zone out and fit the profile similar to say Alex Plank. Scored high on the Simon Baron-Cohen test. Is this condition worth testing for Asperger's? I don't want to do meds, am more interested in behavioral and mental coaching and self-coaching.

Hi and welocme to the aspie community

Its always worth knowing if your on the spectrum, accurate diagnosis is generally a good thing. Firstly, if you don't have Aspergers Syndrome, but something else, it affects what you can do to help yourself (although there is a big overlap between AS and several other disorders/ learning problems etc). Also, it is helpful for family and friends if they are interested about finding out things for themselves.

But really being diagnosed correctly was the best thing ever, for the first time feel know and can be my true self.

I have never medicated, there are others ways. I have written an article on this Do Not Drug Us / Understand Us http://asplanet.info/index.php?option=c ... Itemid=105
which you may find helpful...

Here on these boards, we reccomend a DX only if it means a lot to you personally, or if it allows you some benefit insurance-wise. Getting an accurate one can be expensive, and frustrating. So jump in here, do some reading, do some posting, caht with some of us, and then decide if you really need a DX.

Welcome... I've been in IT that long too.

I missed punched cards but made it in time for reel to reel tapes and eight? inch floppies (not 5.25 but the next size up - nearly A4 size).

True to yourself topic

Mrchhr, I hope you enjoy hopping around the forums here! I like your rapid rabbit name.

asplanet's site and words are excellent. I am not into drugs, either. I have never touched alcohol as the addiction is rampant in the family. You have a great job.

Live long and post often.
