I seem to remember reading somewhere that thermoregulation problems can be a feature in ASDs.

I have always had real problems with overheating during sex and to be honest it is really getting to be a bit depressing now. Just wondered whether anyone else has experienced anything similar?

I don't mean just exhaustion/overexertion and I am fairly trim and physically fit. Seems to be 30 mins or so in and I am literally just drenched with sweat and so hot that I get all discombobulated. The problems aren't psychosomatic as far as I can see as I am in a stable long term relationship where I am comfortable being myself. Aside from being really embarrassing it's a long running problem that I have had with previous partners, I just put it down to nerves or whatever at the time.

I may seek medical advice but I am very doubtful as to whether the doctors I see will even listen to me let alone have any useful suggestions.

Hmm I am already regretting this post...Anybody?

I sweat very easily even with mild activity. There could be a number of reasons for this but in any event I hate it. I have heard of people with ASD's having difficulties with thermoregulation. I think you should ask a doctor if you are curious. I think there are meds to control excessive sweating.

I don't know what you could do (and I'm no doctor). But my crazy suggestion is try ice baths & lots of deodorant. (I know I'm weird   & I'm not trying to offend you ) If you have extreme or little/no sensitivity to cold (as in you can never become numb or the opposite extreme) it may be important to note if you do tell your doctor.

I have a big problem with sweating too much, including during sex. I'm in pretty good condition, and I've always had the problem, even in high school (not the sex part ... ).

I didn't realize there was a thermoregulation AS linkage.

I don't have a problem exercising, and it actually seems to help me in dry heat. I play rugby, bicycle, backpack, etc. and don't have any more thermal stress problems than other people, generally less.

Also I run a couple of degrees cold. My normal temp is 96.8F instead of 98.6F. Maybe it's dyslexia <grin>.

'Rusty', let me know if you find out anything. I'm VERY interested.

I never thought of it as an Aspie thing, but I sweat like a lawn sprinkler when my heart rate gets elevated. Do three miles on the treadmill every night and even keeping multiple towels handy, I had to spray the exposed bolts with plastic Klear-Kote sealer to stop them rusting. :? It doesn't cause me to feel overheated, though - just thirsty.

The only times I've noticed that level of sweating during sex has been in air-conditionless rooms on summer nights, or when things went on for more than an hour or two at a time. But that's a good sweat. And a great excuse for sharing a shower. :D

Heating and cooling topic

I know I have problems regulating body heat/cooling, and i do not know now whether this is a hot flash/flush or an AS thing.

I am extremely exothermic, and overheat with exertion... can relate to what you describe.

Wow thanks people, wasn't expecting so many responses or for this issue to be anything like as common!

I will see if anything comes from making a doctors appointment. I could also speak to a couple of my friends as one is a qualified Medical Herbalist and another is a GP so between them maybe there will be some answers.

I have no discomfort or sweatyness but yes I have been told that my body temperature feels extraordinarily high in that situation. LOL it's very funny to me to see this come up as a topic.

I get very overheated just afterwards for about 30 minutes (no sweating though).

I call it feeling tropical.

Fascinating discussion here, since I have the opposite problem. Very low body temperature, which results in my wearing winter clothes nine months out of the year here in Seattle, and rarely needing to resort to short-sleeved shirts (though the heat wave last month was enough to make me sweat).

A non-Aspie friend has the sweating problem and is extremely sensitive to heat. She went through thorough testing with internists, endocrinologists, and rheumatologists, the final result being that no one was able to figure out the cause. A family member of mine has the same problem, with no explanation found.

Hope someone here happens upon a possible explanation.

Never noticed overheating during sex, but generally I hardly ever seem to be at a comfortable temperature. Maybe sex just takes my mind off the thermoregulation problem for a while - certainly if I'm deeply interested in anything, I don't notice being too hot or cold anything like so much. Same for the other physical discomforts I suffer from - if it weren't for my ability to become fascinated, I'd probably be even grumpier. I've thought about taking pain killers regularly, but no doubt the effect would wear off and then I'd be in an even worse state. But sometimes I'm comfortable....don't know what causes that to happen......and at such times I think that it must be sweet indeed to feel that way all the time.

Hmmm... I was unaware of an AS link to this. I tend to heat and sweat easily, also like a prior poster my natural body temperature runs low.

I don't need much in the way of "winter" clothing until it gets below freezing.

As for sex, I make sure I get my partner all worked up and sweaty, too ;) Taking turns with the more strenuous parts helps, too, as well as creativity with positions. My bad knees bug me more during sex than some sweat ;)

I've had this problem, though others just pointed it out to me as hyper-active sweat glands, so much that my entire head of hair was wet.

If I'm having sex, and I'm not sweating, I'm not trying hard enough... Loads of sweat to me indicates a good session. Can easily share a bath after or a shower.

After I have been erect at least 20+ minutes my unit gets hotter. I've felt it against my stomach and it feels "hot". When I lost my virginity my girlfriend and I were hooked up about 20 minutes and she said its really hot several times and then she started turning her head left and right over and over again. I wish I could say that part on match dot com. I would have a lot better luck.
