When did you discover AS? I was diagnosed when I was 18

Do you have other psych diagnoses? Some mood disorders, depression, anxiety

Do you have a degree? nope but working towards a degree in Biochemistry

Kids? nope

Favorite music: An odd mix of alternative metal and pop/rock: Deadlock, Lafee, Aloha from Hell, Kerli, In this moment, All Ends, Pain, Slot

Job? Im a student, did once hold a job doing clerical work back in highschool

Relationship with significant other, past or present? Err...sorta some internet ones.

Plans for the future? Long Term: graduate, work a year apply to grad school in public health, hopefully get in, well we'll see
Short term: Continue taking classes, work on improving my social skills and my well being, volunteer at a hopsital, dance, work my way up to some actual undergrad research

Anything else you feel is pertinent: This year has been pretty dull so far and started off pretty bad. I was so depressed, I would sometimes feel like I was gonna die. Within the last week and 1/2 things are starting to look slightly up. My psych put me on a med that has made the biggest difference in mood and Im starting to get some invites to social events but it sucked cause I couldnt go cause I had to study for a super hard exam. Well we'll see how things go.

What is your first name? Roland

Age: 49

Location: Auburn, CA

Current perseverations: corporate criminals, corporate welfare, Bank of America

When did you discover AS? not entirely sure about the question, but let's put it this way:
My eldest son, now 7, was diagnosed with severe autism about 5 years ago. It was then that
I became aware of the term Asperger's Syndrom and began to suspect, albeit slowly at first
that such might apply in some way and in some degree to myself.

Do you have other psych diagnoses? Anxiety Disorder.

Do you have a degree? Yes, I have a B.S. in Geography (GIS/RS/Carto.)
with a minor in mathematics.

Kids? 2 boys, 7 and 5; the elest is high-functioning autistic.

Favorite music, other than NIN Laughing: I am unfamiliar with NIN Laughing; however, I am
vageuly familiar with Nine Inch Nails and they don't really do so much for me. I'm more into,
say, the Pixies, the Replacements, the Butthole Surfers, Clutch, Killing Joke, and other stuff. That being said,
my favorite sorts of music include Texana, New Orleans groove, folk, various Brazilian genres (esp. Bossa nova, forró, samba, choro, and sertanejo), Lounge. what is now labeled as 'Americana'. and, I guess, 'World Music'.

Job? I am a Research Analyst II (GIS) working for the California Wildlife Conservation Board.

Relationship with significant other, past or present? I have a wife 6 years my younger, we
have been married going on 8 years now and our relationship continues to be a challenge.

Plans for the future? I hope to be officially diagnosed ASAP.

Anything else you feel is pertinent: Sure, but let's wrap this up for now, shall we?

What is your first name? Bob

Age: 29

Location: Florida, miles away from roller coasters and theme parks.

Current perseverations: Ignoring movies and music that came out after the 90’s. Obsessed over coffee in all it’s various flavors (except blueberry flavored coffee which is am abomination of nature). Forgetting birthdays, phone numbers, holidays, first names, and thinking it’s perfectly acceptable to call people “ What’s-His/Her-Name” to their face.
These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

When did you discover AS? Diagnosed at the age of 8, accepted it at the age of 28.

Do you have other psych diagnoses? I’ve been diagnosed with Avoidance Personality Disorder once. As well as Schizoid like tendencies (I live in a delusional world in which I rather read and draw then deal with people. Wait, I paid my shrink for this diagnosis?), it probably would have been a good idea to mention the Asperger’s diagnosis prior to these sessions - whoops.

Do you have a degree? No, I made the mistake of taking a year off after high school. Blink and it turned into a decade off after high school. I’m thinking of getting into psychiatry and diagnosing people with Schizophrenia - only if they’re literate.

Kids? Two, one non-verbal classic autism, the other diagnosed with ADD which television and video games are the only things that get him to sit still. How this makes him different from other seven year olds, I’m not sure.

Favorite music, other than NIN? There’s music other then NIN? Again, if it’s past the 90’s I’m either unfamiliar with it or curse whenever the radio plays it. There are very few modern songs I like, and the one’s I do usually originate in other countries. As long as it’s loud, angry, and in foreign languages to prevent me from imagining I could possibly sing along - I’m content.

Job? Yes. I’m a certified nurses aid which means that not only do I get to deal with dementia patients that don’t care I’m nuts - I also get to wear these awesome scrubs which are like pajama’s for outside the house!

Relationship with significant other, past or present? Married for eight years so far. Past relationships were with psychos that either enjoyed boy bands, possessed disturbing patches of back hair, or were crazy in ways inconceivable to this delusional coffee lover.

Plans for the future? Surviving the holidays and trying not to slap my Twilight obsessed co-workers.

Anything else you feel is pertinent: Probably a bit late to be posting here since I’ve posted almost everywhere else - so please refrain from saying “ Welcome to WP!”, I’ve been here for a month already.

i have been here for a little while now and thought i would fill in some blanks...

What is your first name? **** but you may call me tektek... (laboured pun from my greeting post)... my first name is Adam.

Age: 29

Location: Brisbane, Australia.

Current perseverations: i am currently on a leave of absence so i have been ruminating about how i get back on track in the near future; playing out scenarios and potential conversations. agonising over taking the time off to get well, what it will mean and how it is interpreted, how things will be when i return... you know the drill. *sigh

When did you discover AS? a number of years ago, but my official diagnosis was November 17th, 2009.

Do you have other psych diagnoses? some depression and anxiety issues.

Do you have a degree? not yet.

Kids? no, no plans to do so.

Favorite music: looking at my library it would be safe to assume that my interest in music is very broad (unlike almost everything else); modern acoustic, classical, folk, blues, mod era music, new wave, brit pop, manchester, classic punk and ska, recent punk, the many shapes and forms of lyrical hip hop that the world has to offer, soul, disco, the many forms and sub genres of electronic music (old school acid house to recent hard electro), alternative, art pop, indie rock, indie pop... the list goes on. i really enjoy music at a fundamental level, and i can fall for the slightest subtle nuance in a track that i would otherwise have ignored or skipped over had it not been there.

Job? i solve problems...

Relationship with significant other, past or present? my last relationship ended several months ago (18 months, ahem). any girlfriend usually becomes tired of my "novel" eccentricities or they are eventually frustrated by a seeming lack of emotional capacity or, conversely, by my habit to (as i recognise in retrospect) express myself in sometimes inappropriate ways at inappropriate times.

Plans for the future? every day is well... right now i am having a good hard look at myself and the direction i want to go in, i am also in the process of improving my health (and fitness).

as my profile suggests, a summary of my interests would include; computers, physics, psychology, music, film, true crime, history, sf/fantasy, anime, and VW group cars.

if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

*edited for addition of detail.

What is your first name? Randolph

Age: 33

Location: Johannesburg, SA. Moving to Lloydminster AB, Canada in 2010

Current perseverations: Quantum mechanics, StackOverflow dot com, and apparently lurking on WP

When did you discover AS? 2003, and then it all made sense

Do you have a degree? A couple of diplomas, and unfinished undergrad teaching degree

Kids? No, but I'm broody as hell

Favorite music, other than NIN: Anything that isn't progressive jazz

Job? Senior consultant / SQL DBA (data professional)

Relationship with significant other, past or present? Married to NT medical doctor

Everything in my life is so so so messed up, since some months ago everything got so worse that I'm feeling hopeless about my future. Sometimes I think I should try living in another social situations\cultures, preferably in another country (after winning a lottery).

I can relate, just went through a period of feeling like that, so my psychiatrist had me try a round of electroconvulsive therapy, which worked! I feel okay about life, better than I've felt on any antidepressants.

Anyway, welcome to WP and thanks for sharing your story.
