I was once described as a 'weird ascetic'.

Other than the objects of my obsessiveness I generally find simplicity calming unless it is the wild organic 'clutter' of nature, likewise with regard sound.

Currently I am enjoying only having books in my life after shedding all my other worldly burdens, it is quite liberating...

peace j

My home is messy but spartan. The best I could ever do is get a few plants to liven up the place (not all of them live). The only things I have on my walls are a few non-standard maps. I wish I were more visually creative, but I'm not. And I bet with my level of dexterity I wouldn't even be able to hang a picture properly on the wall.

I have lots of open floor space with little furniture, most of which has spindly legs that keeps the flow of the floor in view, so it's airy. The floors are bare wood or tile. I have two wool rugs and an alpaca rug and some paintings. I don't have much but what I do have is usually jewel toned and rich in color and texture. So, it could be described as spartan, but the objects that are there are interesting, at least to me.

My home is pretty minimalist but I guess not spartan. I have pictures of my children and their artwork displayed. I also have some religious plaques displayed. Besides those things (which are the core of my life) I don't do knick-knacks or junk.

My home and office are definitely spartan. I tend to live mostly inside my head, so my surroundings aren't all that important to me. :D

My home is my office and it's definately spartan. I did not notice until this thread that I had not hung anything on the walls. I don't have any furnishings besides a bed, couch (which is occupied by my dog) and a frig. no kitchen. The rest of the space is filled with items once usefull for pursuing my special interests lol it's commical yet depressing for me. I would like to go home.

My appartment is functionalistic. If i aint got a use for it, it goes out the trash.

Bedroom and Study room are quite spartan, too much random clutter overstimulates my mind.

My home is a spartan, functional space but very much my refuge from the world. The only decorative things are the house plants. I feel some kind of connection to plants. I can relate to them. I have no desire for dust collecting useless paraphernalia. I never invite visitors over and I live alone.

I get immense pleasure from throwing things out. The less I have the better I feel. Even my book collection is being replaced largely with electronic versions on my e-book reader. How wonderful to be able to carry a whole bookcase worth of books on one small device and no dusting necessary! Same goes for my huge music collection. All digital.

My furniture consists of a folding chair, a futon, and storage for my CDs. I have one plate and one set of silverware (OK, stainless-steel-ware). My bowls are all cheap Tupperware-like products. I have a laptop. I have a microwave oven. The refrigerator, dishwasher, stove/oven, and HVAC came with the apartment, as did the carpeting. I have clothes in the closet. So, in that sense, I'd say my home is relatively Spartan. However, I have books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and boxes filled with papers, books, and other personal items strewn about my apartment. I have a few knick-knacks (mostly Pez dispensers) and a couple of pieces of artwork laying around. Neat and orderly would be the exact opposite of my apartment.
