Hello, I started a thread a few months about getting diagnosed later in life. I had been living in Japan for the last 9 years and was concerned about the process there. Nothing ever happened over there, partially because an unplanned event caused me to suddenly relocate back to the US. So I have been back in the US for 2 months now, and I feel like I don't know this place anymore. So forgive me if I sound like I am asking a question that I should already know the answer to, but I am not familiar with the medical process here anymore.

I want to get a professional diagnosis, and I live in Dallas. Can anyone recommend a specific place or person? Also, should a diagnosis be done at a local hospital, university, private psychologist, or I also saw a few ads for clinics specializing in brain disorders, which autism seems to be thrown in the mix, so which kind of place is better?

After diagnosis, I also want to do training or coping to learn how to better my relationships, have a successful career, and so on, so any suggestions on where/how to do that is also very much appreciated.

You go to a "clinic" or to an independent specialist that--- well, specializes in the spectrum. I would try this place, right in Dallas:

h t t p : / / w w w . a t c o f t e x a s . o r g / This is a treatment center for Autism, since you mentioned wanting to improve. If they cannot diagnose you, they will tell you where you can find somebody who can (because undoubtedly they'd be referred patients from a handful of specialists in Dallas). Sorry about having to space it all out, but I haven't made five posts yet, so URLs don't work for me. Just retype it.

Similarly, if anybody pops in here and knows any information on groups like this in Detroit or near Macomb, *please* let me know. All I can find is just a few psychiatrists with some experience in autism and I don't know if that will suffice.
