He is terribly bright but not well researched on psychology. Most of the terms are probably incomprehensible to him. I have "Be Different" and "The Way I See It" on the way from Amazon. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to read through more than a few pages of either at B&N today. Do you guys have any other suggestions (besides "Cats Have Asperger's Too")?

Thanks in advance!

I was so sure I responded to this... but maybe I forgot to hit the "reply" button.

Thanks!

I have Look Me In The Eye, it was my first book on AS. I will likely leave that one with him. I Atypical on the way. It should be here tomorrow. I can not understand why B&N will not price match their own online prices for store pick up so I ordered them from Amazon and got points for it. I also have The Way I See It and may leave it with him also though I feel Look Me In The Eye is a more accurate image of my childhood.

The Dalai Lama says, "The compassion we feel normally is biased and mixed with attachment. Genuine compassion flows towards all living beings, particularly your enemies. If I try to develop compassion towards my enemy, it may not benefit him directly, he may not even be aware of it. But it will immediately benefit me by calming my mind. On the other hand, if I dwell on how awful everything is, I immediately lose my peace of mind."

It is with that compassionate eye that I choose to view my family and their rejection. My stepmom is still certain I am an undiscovered psychopath. I do not feel that logic or clear vision will protect me but I do hope that educating my father can give him perspective to see that I am not a monster. I think he wants to see me as a person and has tried the last few years, despite my stepmom's vision. The way that he talked about wondering if he would become a psychopath as a kid (far too young to understand what that means, IMHO) struck a cord.

Cats Have Aspergers Too is on the way also. ;)

There's always Somebody Somewhere. Not about Asperger's, per se, but it's so insightful and beautifully written, I consider it a prerequisite for anybody who wants to understand our world.

very good, enlightening and upbeat for the most part and it's about a creative female AS person: Congratulations It's Aspergers Syndrome by Jen Birch
very good about an extremely unusually gifted male AS person: Born On A Blue Day by Daniel Tammet
