I didn't know there was a rule over thread length

The thread continues for as long as people have things to discuss usually

I don't know why people go on discussion boards just to say 'Ok stop talking about this right now!' - it seems a bit of a contradiction. You might not want to continue talking but others might so what harm does it do keeping it open?

or maybe, have you considered that it might be that the thread was already dead or on its way out by the time you posted on it? sometimes people feel (rightly or wrongly) that everything that needed to be said was already said and they don't check back for additional comments. to be fair, a lot of people do tend to fill up threads with "oh yeah me too! ditto!" kind of comments that can take up hundreds of posts. nobody wants to read that. so even though your reply might have been well written and thoughtful, maybe folks at this point are just skimming or not even bothering. in other words, might not be you killing the thread!

The quote is from the OP, five and a half years back. – More than this, I hate to see my name in both columns.

Yes but there is no way to be absolutely sure and therein lies the doubt...

not only do I not worry about it, I enjoy killing threads...

Judging by how long it has been around though, this thread seems rather tough to kill.

I feel that I am a thread killer period. I find that when I post something on here, most of the time, I am finding that one or two others post and then when I reply, he conversation keeps going.

Threadkillers, still 8) after all these years. Well hot dog!! :P *waves* to anyone who remembers me -( to some of us older Aspies who pop in every coupla years, this is a touch-base thread.) And hello to all of course. Nobody excluded here - if a thread can have an ethos - that was always it.
It is my duty as the OP to kill it...hope I've not lost my touch
See y'all...2017. All being well.
Stay safe, be happy. X
