I want to be an engineer. Well, a civil engineer!
Mostly it was from one of my former obsessions about house structures.
Now that I thought about it, there's ideas or things popping on my mind sometimes. If only I can draw things I that I visualize, if only I enjoy math, if only I end up obsessing physics and the environment to see if certain things are plausible...

Also I want to be an explorer, but then real life strikes as it's "expensive", "unsafe"... I would want to find undiscovered and lost things. :(
I also want to be a spy as a child because I prefer knowing the truth. Especially if said truths are from the dark. I'm not sure how much I could do so with this, but one thing is for sure: it's mostly illegal. XD

And the latter 2 makes me think I want to be a scout. I'm not sure what kind of scout, I would like to try reconnaissance.

Oh god, I was totally convinced I'd be a professional baseball player

I was, incidentally, a really good ballplayer growing up, but in retrospect I obviously didn't nearly scratch the surface of that level. I was basically at the level that I could have hacked no prob D-3 in college, but as it turns out I went to a huge D-1 school and committed to smoking blunts every day so I lost track of it right quick.

If only I grew up to be 6'2" and beefy and, oooh, had some actual initiative, what could have been

In my early teens I thought lighthouse keeper would be perfect for me. Helping ships, not dealing with a lot of people and lots of time to myself. It sounded pretty perfect. Except that all the lighthouses were being automatized at the time.

I've always been fascinated by the human mind and loved to help people. What I wanted to be as a kid changed a lot but was always a service job. In elementary school it was a veterinarian. In middle school, especially after 9/11, it was animal search and rescue. In high school, I fluctuated between paramedic, military, and police. In my senior year of high school I realized my life long fascination with the human mind could be a career. Half way through college it formed into behavioral science. I also realized that my interest in criminal justice kept coming back. The result, my bachelors and future career plans.

It makes you wonder why it took so long, when it was staring me in the face for years. I guess I fell for the human error of being blind to what is right in front of me.

I was a traumatised child that was totally invalidated by most of the adults around me. The nuns at school would show us pictures of poor african children that had the biggest smiles I had ever seen. And lived in a mud huts and ate food with their fingers because they were so poor (so the nuns told us). Because in my child logic those children smiled so they had to to be happy, not? And I wanted to be like them and then maybe I would smile and be happy too :(

I used to want to be a scientist, an astrophysicist, and an astronaut... Then I hit puberty and just wanted to be normal.... I failed at normal, so now I guess it's time lift off into space lol!

Amazing how peers influence your actions sometimes huh? I wish I could go back and focus on what I really wanted without giving into that pressure to fit in. Now I'm afraid it's too late....

I wanted to be a research mathematician because numbers fascinated me. I thought they each had their own personality and interactions, and even in high school, nothing seemed more beautiful to me than a well rounded equation.

I also wanted to be a writer because I was very curious about how stuff works.

I've been a freelance writer for most of my life, which is awesome because I control my work environment and don't have to deal with the social and politics of a workplace. I pined over the lost opportunity at being a researcher for a long time, until it became clear that I probably wouldn't have been comfortable since researchers have to deal with a lot of politics to get their research funded. So I guess all ends well. :-)

According to some old school report cards my father dug up from the time our teachers actually recorded our ambitions for our parents to see:
One year was Astronut
Another year was Art Teacher
A third card said Race Car Driver.

I did land one job as a graphic artist in the late 1980's, so I guess that's as close as I got to the three.

I wanted to be a train driver, but I ended up as a..........train driver!

I love my job. I get to spend most of my time at work by myself without having to speak to people. I rarely have to make decisions. Everything I have to do is either written down on paper, or I am following a set of specific instructions I already have in my head. I don't have to think about how I am going to allocate my time every day. When I do have to talk to people, communication follows strict protocols rather than being unstructured. There are no office politics to deal with. I get to look at nice scenery on the largely rural routes that I drive. Except when things go wrong, it's really quite relaxing and calming. I can't think of any other job I could actually do really. The only negatives are the regular assessments all drivers have to have, which I do find extremely stressful and anxiety provoking.

Before the age of 13, I wanted to be a scientist of some sort.

I briefly considered being an astronaut and even went to space camp. (That was a horrible experience for me for a number of reasons.) Among other things, I learned there that at age 10 and 5'6" I was already too tall to be an astronaut.

I briefly considered medical research (specifically in the area of neurology.)

The idea I stuck to the longest was becoming a marine biologist.

Then, at age 13, I went through some serious "soul-searching" and realized I was meant to be a musician. Now, I am a musician. I primarily teach privately, but I also compose and perform a little.

I wanted to pursue so many professions.

Very early on i wanted to work in the forensic field, due to my admiration for Sherlock Holmes and his approach to forensic analysis .

Then, over a long period of time, it switched between neuroscientist, forensic chemist, osteologist, radiologist, musician, screenwriter, actor, oncologist, psychologist, interpreter, and writer.

I like the pro wrestler idea. I have two medals in amateur freestyle and perhaps might have pursued going pro had I found the right connections at the right time.
