The Dino-Aspie Cafe (for Those 40+... or feeling creaky)
I'd suggest you give it a quick check before sitting down. Some people have no respect for corners... or potted plants.

I'm glad you were here, for her, Lau.

you may sit where you please, nannarob, and welcome. If you have been reading through, please understand we just wanted some where we could let our hair down and relate to each other! you are welcome to do the same.
what!?!
Thank you, thank you very much, Lau! I came to this belief on my own and I concur with you completely!
Welcome Dinos, to the birth of subspecies "Homo Sapiens Holos", or "HuSH - someone might hear us".
Hate to alarm you, my brother, but we were born quite a while ago! It's our comprehension of what we were born as that we are welcoming!
What?! geeze, ya' try to virtually construct one good WC in the corner and they never let you forget it!

I think I'm going to watch Altered States today. I loved that movie when it came out. I wanted to go into an isolation tank. The fact that my NT husband took me to see it on a date was one of the reasons I liked him. Of course he wanted to come out completely primal while I just wanted to lay in the tank and think. That's why he's still NT.
Good morning fellow Dinos! Welcome Nannarob! Sorry I missed ya last night CosmicCat and Rjaye!
Your idea is interesting Lau. But the married Aspies like ZanneMarie had better get "busy" if there is to be any continuation of us (and consequent continuation of our evolving brains)! My socialization skills have devolved to such a degree that I never know when someone is flirting with me. I may be an extreme case, but friends used to tell me all the time "Why haven't you taken out _____ ? She's been flirting with you all week!" And I'd say "Eh?... Wassat?... Who?..." Once a woman invited me over for diner. Afterward, she went to the bedroom, and came back buck naked. I had read about nudists beforehand, so assumed she must be one. I thought "Nudists must eat with their clothes on." She invited me to the bedroom, where I commented on her excellent taste in furniture...
Get busy ZanneMarie! If we have to depend on me, the whole experiment fails....
Chuck, don't go holding your breath with me. First of all I'm 47 so it would be a bit absurd at this stage, don't you think? Second of all, the condition of my marriage (on my part) was no children ever. If he even brought it up I would divorce him. He told me to keep my office clean (he can't stand my books open all over while I'm writing). That pretty much sums us up. And anyway, he may do algorithms for fun, but he's as NT as the day is long. Okay, so he thinks the NT traits are just ways the government uses the mindless masses to grind out their useless products for created consumers, but he is still NT. OCD, but NT.
Chuck,
I wouldn't worry yourself too much. Both of my parents had nine siblings, all of them had six to ten kids and most of my cousins had at least three to four kids. One of my own brothers had six and I'm fairly certain my brother and his kids (with the exception of one) are on the spectrum somewhere. I come from a long, long line of mass breeders. That gene pool is well represented.
I couldn't quite fathom what it was, in the fMRI stuff, that... disquieted me. This thing about "Well, look at this. When applying their minds to task XYZ, 50% of these damaged AS people are using large areas of their "general purpose" brain, rather than these neurotypicals, who have this little tiny specialised (overworked, but unsensing, unspeaking) patch that they use for it".
Something about the argument was ringing alarm bells, only I seemed to be deaf. (Why does farting come to mind here?)
I don't feel damaged, broken, ill, incomplete, stupid, subnormal, or any other such words. In fact, I use all of my brain, all of the time. I don't even know, personally, what a "subconscious" is all about. I haven't got one. I gather most people think they have one. Some people have been told they have one (I have been told so), and have believed it (I don't, so there!). Best I've come up with is "If I had one, it would be an excuse for when I did that thing, which I now wish I hadn't." Bunkum.
This is what I refer to as my subconscious Lau! My mind will pick up on something, a fact, a topic, a picture ... whatever. Later, something else I see, read, or experience will add to the first thing I picked up on. Over time, a vague feeling or idea will be happening in my head that I just can't quite get a hold of. Then I'll have a dream, and voila! Everything that I've been noting, however disjointed (on what I call a subconscious level), is now integrated on a conscious level!

I'm glad about this for your family ZanneMarie!
I made an incorrect assumption looking at my own family: None are married. No children.

me too. I guess I am self selecting because a guy has to literally sweep me off my feet, that is, to just pick me up and carry me away before I will even clue into the idea he is interested in me in a sexual way. Of course, by THAT time, I am kicking and screaming "unHAND me, young man!" because I get the idea TOO graphically by that time.
I always thought I was a controlling female because I would do the seducing. Now I understand that there were plenty of young and not so young men who would have liked to be on my dance card, but I was completely oblivious to them.
and I am not in the breeding business at this late stage of the game!

My younger brother is a good looking guy. He used to clean swimming pools while in college. He once told me "Every time I clean out ______'s pool, she starts drinking. Then she jumps in the pool, and loses her bathing suit. And I don't think she's even drunk!"
I told him "Hmmmm...let me look it up. Could be she's allergic to or extremely intolerant of alcohol! Better watch her carefully so she doesn't drown..."
My poor brother! With me as the older brother giving advice, he never stood a chance.
If I wrote a movie about my life it would be a conglomeration of "Forest Gump is Stupider than Hell" and "Dumb and OMG Dumber!" and "Revenge of the Nerdiest White Boy that ever Dragged Knuckles".
Yet another bandwagon jumper... curbie to boot. Is this me being too cynical?
The lyrics (at http://www.shirleylevi.com/music/lyrics/anne_marie/) strike me as a bit cotton-wool-ish. What on Earth is "gift from G-d in disguise" all about? Who's G-hyphen-d supposed to be?
I listened to the rest of the tracks. Not quite elevator music. I read the other lyrics (partially). I gave up with the incomprehensible, illiterate bits. Ah well. Each to his own taste. I hate "meaningful" that isn't. I like my word salad without dressing.
(And... I'm having trouble with "Bones" at the moment. They seem to be curing all the AS characters in it.)

now, Lau, some religions are so respectful of the name of G-D that they don't write out the whole word. You 'member this from such ideas as the 'N' word and the "F" word, don't you? yes, but in that they are NOT respecting the 'n' word or the 'f' word but make you THINK it in your head with out actually printing it on the page. Personally any religion that calls their Supreme Being the generic stock phrase of 'god' sorta misses the point, in my mind, but I digress.
I don't have sound drivers on my computer, so I missed the song.
oh, I wouldn't worry about curing the AS folks. As a gay friend of mine said "if you can CURE us, we AIN'T Gay to begin with!"
