taking care of two young boys Dxed. I babysat her a lot when she was between 3 and 9 years old so we have a tight bond. Now I wonder if she was trying to point me in this direction. I first took a good look at criteria Feb. 07 and realized thats me.

HMO or Union Brothers/Sisters. Should have a Diagnosis by mid April.

What is your first name? David

Age: 45, approx

Location: Rural Washington State

Current perseverations: Writing fiction, studying neurofeeback, playing the piano, trying to keep it together - it takes work!

When did you discover AS? Today

Do you have other psych diagnoses? Depression, OCD

Do you have a degree? Two or three

Kids? None

Favorite music, other than NIN Laughing I'm sorry, I miss this point. I love NIN. But mostly it is reggae and Mozart. And down home thigh slapping hardcore get out your girlfriend and bay at the moon folk music.

Job? One (and a half)

Relationship with significant other, past or present? Two failed marriages

Plans for the future? Keep it together. This diagnosis hits me with four novels in varying stages of creation, a full clinical load, and a budding practice of neurofeedback, an attempt to learn piano, along with assorted other past and future projects. I have studied Up until this moment (of diagnosis) I have been struggling to find the meaning of my wanderings through the forests and fields of thought and activities. My life moves on past itself every two years - which is not long enough to accomplish works worth finishing. If only I were taller, and could see around the bend of the terrain, and I were smarter, so I could execute my scrambled thoughts more quickly, then I would be able to publish, or even just finish project before starting another. It is my hope that learning from you-all may give me that vision.

Name: Too distinctive to list.

Age: 29

Location: Canada

Current Perseverations: Quantum Computation, Electronics Design, Physics, Web Application Design, Classic Country Music, English History (including law and language), Reading (fiction and technical), My GF

When did you discover AS: I discovered it about two years ago. My mother became a TA specializing in special needs children. She told me about it, and said that it was likely that I had it. I resisted until last fall. Then, after some research, I came to the conclusion that I had AS. I have since had that concept confirmed by several who are knowledgable in regards to AS.

Any other psych diagnosis: I actually don't have any official diagnosis. However, in addition to AS, after further research, I beleive that I have Central Auditory Processing Disorder, Bipolar, maybe some ADD, likely some OCD, and also some PTSD.

Do you have a degree: BSc. (Computer Engineering). Am supposed to be pursuing a PhD at the moment. However, that has been snatched away for the moment.

Kids: None yet.

Favourite Music: Classic Country. Largely the first two generations, Outlaw Country, and others created outside of Nashville (such as Bakersfield Sound), Bluegrass, some oldies, and suprisingly, Meatloaf.

Job: Fixing fireplaces. Cannot obtain a position in my industry (hardware design).

Relationship: Was married for about three years. Divorced. Currently living with my GF. Rather concrete plans for marriage. However, waiting for finances to co-operate.

Plans for the future: Get PhD. Research quantum computation.

What is your first name?
Valery

Age:
40something

Location:
Southern California

Current perseverations:
I'm an artist. I paint. Currently trying to create as much art as possible to supply the shows I have upcoming. I read. I write. I make herbal tinctures. I have a big interest in alternative medicine.

When did you discover AS?
I took a personality test last year and it said that I have AS. Looking it up quickly on Wikipedia and not liking to see the word, "autistic" I stopped pursuing that idea. But the topic came up again a couple weeks ago so I stopped everything and took a couple specific AS tests, in which I scored within the boudries. Low end, but still within.

Do you have other psych diagnoses?
Borderline, antisocial, blah blah blah

Do you have a degree?
No. Hated school in all forms. Only studied once out.

Kids?
Yes. 2 girls.

Favorite music, other than NIN
NIN isn't even a favorite :) But my all time favorites are: Leonard Cohen, Smashing Pumpkins (older stuff), Cranberries, System Of A Down, Three Days Grace, CocoRosie, Lightnin Hopkins, Billie Holiday, Tori Amos (older), and so much more. I'm totally into music. Obsessively. I love old punk (the real stuff), old blues, old jazz, 80's alt rock, classic rock, heavy metal. Dislike current pop music. It's junk food for the ears.

Job?
Artist. Owner and sole proprietor of Broken Toyland.

Relationship with significant other, past or present?
Husband of 12 years just left me. Thinks my AS is proof I'm nuts  He's depressed after his father died last June and is going back to Poland to live with his mother and take care of her  So she's the 'other woman'. But that's another novel...

Plans for the future?
I've learned not to plan for the future. Just working really hard right now is all. Blinders on. No distractions.

Anything else you feel is pertinent:
I love animals. Dogs and birds mostly.

Kids? A 4 1/2 year old profoundly gifted NT daughter
Favorite Music: Enya, Classic Rock, Crossover Country
Job: Homemaker by day, mad scientist by night
Relationship: Married 5 years to a NT elementary school teacher. I love her cause she saw the second grader in me that everyone else had missed.
Plans for the future? Recently admitted to Ph.D in computer science. Now I have to figure out how to afford it.

Better late than never.

What is your first name? Chris

Age: 28

Location: Colorado

Current perseverations: Watchmaking, antique bicycles, writing, astrophysics

When did you discover AS? I first read about AS in 1999 or 2000 and, in a quest for objectivity, spent the time from then 'till about a week ago evaluating myself before finally deciding that it fit. Eight years isn't too long for a decision like that, is it? :)

Do you have other psych diagnoses? None official, though I could probably come up with a few... how does moderate agoraphobia grab ya?

Do you have a degree? Nah

Kids? Almost. Would've been nine years old by now.

Favorite music: Blues, jazz, classical, doo-wop, some classic rock, Jimmy Buffett, some of the new hippie stuff, some of the new stuff in general

Job? Until a couple of months ago I wasted six years at an auto restoration shop. Nothing new at the moment. Suggestions?

Relationship with significant other, past or present? Twice. One for six months, one for two years. But at least I haven't had to figure out what to do for Valentine's day for the past couple of years :).

Plans for the future? I've hoped for a family and enough money to be comfortable, but I'm a realist so I'll probably just stick to slowly going nuts... -er.

Anything else you feel is pertinent: I once played an entire game of Spider Solitare with my right big toe. I greatly enjoy economic theory. I can't walk through my garage at the moment. I still write web pages in Notepad.

What is your first name? It comes from the Bible but I'd rather not say

Age: almost 44

Location: Originally from Illinois, moved a lot as a child, now live in another Great Lakes state

Current perseverations: AS, WP, writing a memoir, gardening, and at the moment avoiding getting out of bed and going for a run.

When did you discover AS? January 6, 2004 when a colleague told me about her soon-to-be-ex son-in-law.

Do you have other psych diagnoses? No, although I could probably have for anxiety and depression if I pursed them.

Do you have a degree? B.S. and M.A.

Kids? No, that would require actually having a successful intimate relationship.

Favorite music, other than NIN Laughing: I'll have to Google NIN. I appreciate all kinds of music, except most Country. and nearly all Contemporary Christian. I am not nostalgic for music of my youth because my Classical Music loving parents wouldn't allow me to listen to anything with a beat to it.

Job? Professionally but not that monetarily successful. Am in the process of resigning to focus on consulting.

Relationship with significant other, past or present? My last girlfriend let me know that she wasn't falling in love with me after about five months which is a record for me.

Plans for the future? Get evaluated for AS, finish my book -- YES! it started raining so I don't have to run or mow my lawn today . . .

Anything else you feel is pertinent: I can't even begin to explain how AS explains so much - I'm working at shifting the way I think about myself to be less self-critical and more happy.

Z

Name: prefer not to say, name too identifying because of distinctiveness
Age:32
Location: in flux between Madison, WI and Southeast Minnesota
Current perseverations: evolutionary psychology, Civilization 4, chess, macroeconomics
When did you discover AS? Diagnosed October 2006
Comorbid diagnoses: generalized social anxiety, dysthymia (mild depression)

Kids: no
Favorite music: singer songwriter primarily multiple genres. current favorites: Phil Ochs, Neko Case, Jenny Lewis, Merle Haggard, Lucinda Williams, Townes Van Zandt, Nick Drake
Job: I'm hoping to get a high school teaching job (social studies) for next fall. Not sure if I'll like it, but I want to try. I might be better suited to college teaching.
Relationships: Never really have had friendships. Had a romantic relationship for a couple of years, problem was we got along, but we weren't really friends (got along with each other, but didn't connect emotionally or have common interests).
Biggest problem: Pervasive loneliness tends to get in the way of many things.

What is your first name? Sarah.

Age: 39.

Location: East Anglia, UK.

Current perseverations: Finally cracking down and writing a novel after many attempts over the years. Discovering G. M. Ford's Leo Waterman crime novels, which I started reading because of the setting but I'm also finding they're dead funny. Art and music, as always. And the song of the moment, 'Giga Dance' by Deerhoof, which I keep listening to over and over like I sometimes do with songs.

When did you discover AS? A few years back, I started hearing about it. It was only when someone mentioned the 'obsessions' part that I started going 'Hmmm...' I have been 'hmmm'-ing for a few years now, but just recently, found that so many of the descriptions I'd read made sense that I'd better look into this further.

Do you have other psych diagnoses? Depression and anxiety. Last bout of depression was five years ago. Currently still on medication for anxiety, but working on dealing with it.

Do you have a degree? No. Didn't stick with art college long enough to get one.

Kids? No. Love them, but think I have too much baggage myself to raise any.

Favorite music, other than NIN Believe it or not, I do occasionally listen to stuff other than Nirvana now and again! Actually, a pretty wide range of stuff....everything from Pixies to Shins to Regina Spektor to Bach to Johnny Cash to Metallica to the Presidents of the USA to the Trachtenburg Family Sideshow Players. And basically anything that makes me go 'Wow, this is good!', regardless of whether anyone else has ever heard of or likes it.

Job? I'm a medical clerk in a pathology lab. It pays the bills, satisfies my 'Body parts! Cool!' tendency, and keeps me safely away from hordes of people.

Relationship with significant other, past or present? Married too young, divorced, spent a while alone, now happily married to husband #2, eight years and still going strong.

Plans for the future? Long-term, moving to the USA (yes, I have no illusions about how difficult that may be), becoming a published author, playing guitar in little clubs and having an underground following, and having my hair dyed slightly more pinkish than at present. Mid-term, attending the Bumbershoot this fall. And short-term, worrying about tomorrow's 'cello lesson and thinking about putting the kettle on if my husband hasn't already.

Anything else you feel is pertinent: I'm the most verbose creature on earth. People who know me know that there is no such thing as a short email from me. So, please excuse me if I exhibit that tendency here.
