I always imagine the voice and personality of the computer I'm working with inside my head. My Windows XP computer definitely was Roz on Monsters, Inc.:

"Wzlowski! You didn't turn in your paperwork."
"...er, ? my name is Chuck..."
"I'm watching you Wzlowski, always watching..."
"...er, can we not just pretend I did the paperwork, my lovely Roz?"
"I'm shutting down!" SLAM!! !

This Windows Vista computer definitely has the musical semi-laughing lilting voice of 'good witch Glenda' on Wizard of OZ. It has an elegant background picture, and the windows fade in and out all gauzy and Pink Floyderish, and its waaay too helpful:

"Ha hm hm! Well, hellooo Chuck, so nice to meet you! What is it that you'd like to do?"

"Whoa! ...er, hello Good Witch Glenda, you startled me!"

"My name's HAL-lie."

"Oh. Well hello HAL-lie, I was just about to put the information in so I could connect to the internet..."

"But you're already connected, Chuck, I've done that for you automatically, would you like to see?"

"..er, huh?..."

"Here we are Chuck, on the internet! Here are three world event articles for you to read while I configure your settings... there we are... all done!"

"...erm..."

"You wanted to talk to your friends at the Dino-Aspie cafe? Here, I'll connect you! And by the way, you'll need to head off for work in 17 minutes. Your white shirt will go better with those pants. I have your lunch packed and ready by the door!"

"...how did you...?"

"I can see by your keystroke speed that you need help - why don't you just talk to me? Would that help?"

"...um, because I sound like the munchkin that represents the Lollipop kids..."

"Ha hm hm, why yes you dooo! Well, just think then, and I will read your mind."

"...erm...thanks Good Witch Glenda..."

"My name is HAL-Lie. Shall I read you a story?"

ZanneMarie wrote Personally I've seen good and bad NTs. I'm pretty sure we have good and bad AS people. People tend to be people underneath our labels and run the spectrum from good to bad. I'd rather promote, from the Dino perspective, these are the tools we found to survive, keep our sanity and be successful by our own standards. To me that is much more valuable and I really think our generation especially has this outlook. The younger folks seem so full of anger and despair that it makes me sad for their futures. I wish they could see that it doesn't have to be that way, you can find your own path. I try to tell them that as often as possible, mainly because I think dwelling on the negative can ruin their chances to find that path.

Not that I don't think we need to acknowledge the negative, just not dwell on it.[/quote]
I'm not going to dwell on NT issues on this thread. And I have been reading negative stuff on other threads. This is the place to air it. This is probably one of the few places where aspies can sound off and get some relief. Now get back to your issues!

But if you could see the look of relief on my face and my hopeful body language...oops. Anyway thanks for accepting me. If you want me to shut up and go away, I will. But as I said before I'd rather sit beside Lemon than hide behind the foliage where you can't see me. Wish I could shut up like Lemon.

Nannarob! You're one of the gang now! Pull up a chair, get something to eat and drink, join in, and have fun. I'll have to go now myself though. Good Witch Glenda (...what's that?...), oh, erm, excuse me, HAL-lie, is telling me its time to go to work now.

Did you ever notice the more Bill Gates idiot proofs his products the less you like them? I've always felt this way. I thought it was a control issue (I must see the code!), but it turns out it is probably an AS thing.

I wonder if there is a way to kill Glenda like that stupid paper clip that was supposed to be so helpful.

Thanks, Chuck. Now I will hear the Wizard of Oz in my head all night. Did he write that on Opium?

Nanarob, I have literally hundreds of NT relatives (yep, knew them all!), two NT friends for 47 years (literally born within days of me) and married an NT (for almost 26 years now), so you can sit by me. I've worked out most of the kinks of how to get along. Just don't expect a muffin even if I get one because my non-verbal skills have been out for repairs my whole life. Oh and don't touch me without warning or I scream and cry which might upset us both. I scream like Jaime Lee Curtis in Halloween so your ears will hurt afterward as well. Just all around not a good thing. And never mind my unnerving stare, just tell me to look at something else when it bothers you. However, if you need an absolute zinger of a nasty letter written to your grandson's school, I am so there. I write really effective nasty letters. It must be the Technical Writer in me.

The Wizard of Oz wasn't written on O, not sure about the screen play. Actually was 3 of them and not a lot of other well known credits for writing before or later, although the one had some childerns books. I think it's one of the best screen plays ever done and had it been anyother year then 39 would have certianly taken film of the year. I couldn't believe my eyes when Margret Hamiltion didn't even get a nod for a supporting actor award, but she didn't. Interesting woman to say the least. Single mom, teacher, deep feelings for childern and education, during filming her makeup caught on fire and landed her in the hospital for weeks. It has to be my all time favorite movie and I can quote the hell out of it. Even use some of it for some heavy thinking, well to me it is, such as... Are you a good witch or are you a bad witch? (Dorthy to the effect of) I'm no witch at all. Well Dorth ol gal, you're still a witch. Doesn't lend itself to deep thinking, but the value of that little scene doesn't leave me. I recall the first time I saw it in a theater, Mom had to take me out of the show room when the wizard came on, no problem with the witches or the flying monkeys, but that Oz guy was a scarey sob.

The first time I saw a good color piture on tv and even that wasn't too hot was in Radio City Music Hall. Mom wanted me to see the Rockettes and the inside of a real theater. I recall going up a flight of stairs and glancing at some very well dressed people, the kind one might see in the movies, black tie and evening gowns all around a tv. It was a color football game. I think the color on the tv was ok, but I was more interested in the people watching it. Later the Rockettes which i still have fresh in my mind and the god awful Ronald Ragan movie that showed later. Mom was from New York, we lived in the sticks of Penna and she just felt it really needed to get me out to see the real world, yeah right Mom.

I recall the snowyness of the tv picture, when it first broadcast both in black and white and then later in color. First time on a color tv, it was like where is the color? Always at a nieghbors house as tv wasn't allowed in ours. In a way I suppose it was a good thing, I did read a lot or what passed as reading to me. I still wanted to be like the other kids though. We know how that went too, we all sort of felt our way through that thing, both good and bad, worked and didn't work. See doesn't matter if I'm a high level aspie or a low level aspie, I'm still an aspie and so are you :)

How I love that movie to this day.
