You're probably getting the flu or just not enough sleep. Go get a complete blood work, if you can.

You shouldn't be feeling like that at 29. 29 is still very young. I'd get checked out for that reaction shivering reaction. But honestly, 800lbs? That's too much even for an athlete to deal with. You have to be careful. The back is very delicate.

to 3103......after much trauma, i find myself living in constant pain. and it's a drag. the trick to continuing is to find something worthwhile to do.

there is no question that my continued existence has enriched the lives of other. not ego. thousands of lives actually.
15 years of doing volunteer work with animals.

worth the pain. worth the anguish. worth the heartache.

when that no longer works, i will not continue. if you have nothing but yourself, unbearable pain becomes unbearable.

i also volunteer with animals danandlouie, and I love them all, and really struggle with not being able to bring them all back to my house (you know what I mean). I agree, helping your fellow creatures, human or animal is the way to go. I'm sorry you're in so much physical pain.

Thanks for the replies all.

I am doing better these days. :)
Still have some depression, but most of those physical ailments aren't bothering me anymore.
Still have my problems sleep, migraines and IBS to deal with though... those never seem to go away.

I know I'm lactose intolerant so I avoid milk. I have a supplement that helps to take if I have to have anything dairy. That's half of my IBS, but the other half is harder to figure out since it occurs randomly.

I just worked that out about myself. I was going to a meeting at a clients site, suddenly felt trouble brewing (litterally) and stared at my cellphone and pretended I had been texted about kid trouble and headed off away and for a safe toilet  I started to think back on things and milk was the problem, all my Uncles have the same thing.
On getting old, your body just needs more practice, it doesn't stay limber when doing 'owt like it did when you were younger, I have back and other problems so go to a gym now early in the morning and make myself do weights. I just have to, its much better than the alternative of 'gammy-ness' and 'gyp' and permanent grumbly problems..eventually it gets a bit addictive so thats good too. It feels good to be strong :)

I am 57 and feel that aging is wonderful. This is the best kept secret esp for women! Our youth culture demonizes it (starting with my generation not trusting anyone over 30 - haha).

Not only am I better, but so are most of the people my age I meet.

I do think someone who feels so physically done for at 29 needs a good check up - it is not normal, you're still just a mear pup. Nutrition also make a big difference. Do you have insurance? Do you drink water and avoid pollutants? Plastic is an abomination, for example....

This is an excellent post, and I hope the original poster will heed it.

And FWIW, I wouldn't pay attention to pronouncements about aging from anyone under about 55 or so. Younger people tend to think that being older is a horrible condition that must be "survived", and that's simply not true.

It is true that your physical capabilities diminish, of course, but so many things are better in this age that it's not even a good comparison.

Back to the physical thing ... here's some generalities: the older you get, the more important it is to eat right and get exercise. Your body won't compensate for being a couch potato nearly as well. Also, your recovery time from strenuous exercise is longer. You have to be smart about things. Speaking for myself, I hike and run and work out just as much as I did 30 years ago. I don't hike or run as far as I did back then, but I'm in good condition and I feel great.

Awiddershinlife makes a very good point ... in many ways, I feel like my life is better now than it was in my 20's and 30's. Trust me, you've got a longggggg way to go before you're "old".

Old is new again topic

I eat right, restrict calories, fat, salt and take supplements. And 1.5-2.0 hours of cardio every day since my job is no longer as strenuous.

I feel great. I actually run around outside more. I just feel like it, as I did as a child. :D

Just today I'm really feeling the age...
All this up and down and stress and depression has taken it's toll on my body this summer.
Today was the first day in a long while I've had to anything even remotely strenuous. (Drag a 800 lb trailer around the drive way several times)
I felt fine about it then and felt good for getting some exercise but just in the past couple of hours my entire legs and lower back and ache like heck. For whatever reason I was shivering at work and now that I'm home, I feel really hot. I almost didn't even want to bother walking up the stairs in my home.
I'm feeling 30 years older than I should. I feel like crap.

How do older folk even stand getting by like this? I hate thinking that I'll probably end up feeling like this when I get into my 60s.

Actually what you describe is commonly known as anaerobic respiration in the muscles. When you have not done any form of exercise that is slightly strenous (like jogging for example) in a long time your muscles will not 'breathe' in the oxygen in your blood as efficiently as they used to.

That makes them switch from using oxygen to using glucose stored in your muscles to create lactic acid and it uses that as fuel for your muscles. That acid builds up in your tissues and its what causes that 'heavy, almost cramp-like' feel during and for some time after you do physical work.

Normally this happens to people who have been doing physical work for a long time ..like athletes.. but it also happens to couch potatoes ( ) who suddenly get up and do something unusually stressful with their muscles.

You're bound to ache after such strenuous exercise, even at your age. especially if you don't work out regularly.

As a comparison:

I'm 32.
I weigh 69-72kg.
I started dumbbell exercises (2x4kg) 2-3 times a week. My muscles hurt for a day or two after each exercise set. light exercise helps relieve that.
I occasionally get leg/foot pains. Posture, especially when sleeping, and better footwear, plus avoiding constant walking on hard surfaces, influences this.
I switched to more leafy greens combined with mixed colour veges, lightly cooked, as my main dietary meal, with egg(s) and occasional meat, plenty of water, cut back on bad fats, sugars and sweets. Felt great. Then now I'm housesitting for my father and have been eating all the biscuits and chocolate he gave me for christmas, I feel awful, constant wind and sleepy all the time!

P.S. I'm going to look into that grapefruit pectin mentioned.

And now that I've finished reading the thread :D ...

what else is good for dealing with lactic acid, aside from "workdown" routines?

Aside from grapefruit pectin, what else helps with arteries and the heart? Vitamins, Fruits, Vegetables?

adjusting your omega 3:6 ratio to no more than 1:4

google happy healthy long life blog for easy info or do your own research....

so a quarter of omega fatty acids should be omega 3 compared to omega 6? or 4 times omega 3 as omega 6?

at least a quarter of omega fatty acids should be omega 3 compared to omega 6, which will help arteries and the heart (and other inflammatory diseases such as RA, diabetes, etc)

healthy ratios range from 1:1 to 4:1, and this was common before refined flours, processed foods, and eating meat 3X/day was the norm

typical Western diets now provide ratios of 10:1 to 40:1
