I'm planning a road trip around Britain for next spring/summer, looking for a place to hire a Land Rover Defender to do it in - probably have to do it without a border collie though...

I could lend you a guinea pig if that would help.

A Mascot! Now that would be cool - we could take pictures of us dining with Queen Elizabeth, etc...

I have a 1998 Chevrolet Prizm with a 1200w sound system.

My wife has a loaded 2001 Toyota Camry XLE. She likes it for the power options, I like it for the 192 horsepower. :D

I have a 2005 purple Chrysler PT Cruiser - very basic and auto transmission. I made the last payment a year ago, so I own it.

When my niece first saw it she said that the purple was an "old ladies' color." Kind of put me off a bit, but I like purple.

Also there's a stereotype with the Cruiser. It's supposed to be a fogey car apparently, but I'm hopeful when I see a young person driving one. Now that I'm unemployed I don't drive it often; just to buy groceries, to go to the doctor and visit friends/family. It's kind of nice to have though.

A year and a half ago I drove it from here in Southern California to Vancouver, Canada - long two day trip. My sister lives in a Vancouver suburb. On the way back I stopped off at Mt. St. Helens and other scenic areas along the West coast. Nice drive. I wish I'd had somebody with me though. I don't really like going on long trips by myself.

and my own, which is a SEAT Toledo.

We have two vehicles: a Chrysler Town & Country that I drive and a Ford F-150 that my husband drives.

Our plans are far more interesting:
I plan to trade in the T&C for a Chevy Traverse, which will give me all the seating and storage options without being in a minivan.
We plan to give the F-150 to my oldest, who will be driving soon and would love a red pick-up truck.
My husband wants a bigger truck with a crew cab (full size back seat).
My husband also wants a motorcycle.

We'll likely inherit one (possibly two) scooters, and I wouldn't mind puttering around downtown for errands and photography on one.

i've never had the fundage to have any really fancy cars, but i've driven lots of different cars and have my impressions of all of 'em. i've been taking up space on this earth for decades and have owned lots of different jalopies-
*1970 VW squareback *1974 volvo 144 *1976 ford pinto *1979 VW rabbit *1983 ford escort coupe *1985 plymouth colt *1985 dodge aries SE *1988 plymouth reliant LE *1990 ford taurus *1991 dodge dynasty LE *1992 mercury sable GS *1994 toyota camry LE *1995 chevy lumina *1997 lincoln continental *1999 buick century *2001 toyota prius *2002 chevy impala *2004 toyota avalon-
and hopefully last but not least, a 1997 honda CRV AWD EX [my present driver, that i inherited]. i've driven on short term tryouts, lexus ls, mercedes 190E2.6/300D/E, hyundais of various shapes and sizes, ford windstars, lincoln towncars, cadillac sedan de villes, mitsubishi galants, 60s era chrysler imperials, 70s era dodge darts, chevy monza fastbacks, VW microbuses, gmc astro airporter [stretch] vans, ford mavericks, renault meddalions, simcas, anglias, ford cortinas, chevy vegas, amc concords, amc ambassadors, ford courier trucks, toyota trucks of various sizes, datsun truck [the harshest most bone-rattling drive ever!], toyota corollas of various vintage, early 80s toyota supra, 80s buick electra, buick regals of various years, and probably many more that i can't recall right now. all of them left an impression on me. i'd like to have the toyota avalon back as it was, overall, the most civilized and comfortable car i'd ever had the privilege of driving- it was a 6 passenger taxi model [japan] with a split bench front seat and column shifter. it ran silently and smoothly over all sorts of roads, bumpy or smooth, it was all mostly the same to the avalon, the best toyota on these shores.

That's a lot of vehicles, auntblabby.

I had a datsun truck in the 1980's that was the loudest, most uncomfortable ride ever. Ha! Hadn't thought about that truck for the longest time.

I currently drived an old F 150.

[This is a bit off topic (forgive) but what kind do you guys think should I buy for my teenager]

yeah, unfortunately for my relative lack of savings, that is very much true. too damned many. but the experiences were priceless.

just now recovering from the experience enough to give it conscious recall, no? :)

my brother-in-law got himself a bargain on an '89 f150, he likes it a lot. i like the commanding view of the road from the elevated cab [it has big wheels].

late 80s to mid-90s japanese models are generally reliable but oft a target for thieves and chop shops. used asian car parts [by hook or by crook] are a thriving enterprise. from what i've read, used buick centuries are cheap and relatively reliable [later models] because GM had 2 decades to iron the kinks out of 'em. they aren't too much fun to drive, though. their poor handling will encourage your teen to take it slow. a used toyota corolla [say a '93 or newer] should be relatively economical and trouble-free and also not one to encourage hot-rod-behavior. small toyota pickups [from the 80s onward] also have proven reliable and civilized. avoid anything german, they were relatively expensive and built to stay that way. late 90s or later honda sedans are also fine. reliability goes down hill when you get away from toyota and honda- for example my niece drives a mitsubishi galant that became a money pit when the odometer went past 100k [timing chain, valve train]. i highly recommend this month's consumer reports annual automotive issue, it has informative capsule descriptions of which cars are likely to be reliable, as well as lengthly lists of used cars to avoid with a 10-foot pole.
good luck to you :)

Guiltily, two.

My old car, which DH now drives and I miss terribly-- 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. 200,000+ miles and still going strong, so either me or my mechanic knows what we're doing. I'd like to think it's both.

Even more guiltily, my now car-- 2005 Kia Sedona. That's a minivan. Which means it gets, like, 23 mpg highway with an educated foot on the accelerator and a good tailwind. Even more guiltily because I've got a family of a size that necessitates the van if we're going to go anywhere all together.

So much for my career as an environmentalist.

PS-- The Kia is a piece of s**t. I've had it for a year and already sunk over half as much into fixing it as I've spent on repairing the Cav in 10 years. That's what I get for buying a used car from a f*****g dealership.

I can't drive. But, I get to look at a nice black Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, sitting in the driveway, 3 days a week, when the hubby cycles to work.

Just one. It's an old 1999 Nissan Maxima that still runs well.
