The "haunted house" where the "crazy" person lived back then

Kind of a similar situation happened at Willowbrook State School in the 60s and early 70s--except on a much larger scale.
People who had intellectual disabilities were kept living with rats and other vermin, as well as their own feces.
Geraldo Rivera did an expose on the school in 1972. I saw every installment of that expose.
It would be instructive, in my opinion, for someone to Google it.

Rivera was a young investigative reporter for the New York City ABC affilate at the time. Rivera won a Peabody Award for this documentry that launched his career. I certainly remember watching this.
This is when the news was actual journalism, not gossip.

Well, that was much more disturbing than I anticipated. I had read about this, but seeing it was something else. The horrific conditions for people of disabilities... I know this goes on now too- I read something about this on a smaller scale in the NYT the other day. This is terrible.
We didn't have a weird house like that in my home town- it was a bit urban for that, but my parents said all the people in houses like that when they were growing up- were just child molesters that tried to lure children in- literally with candy and games and some chump change... I think one of my family members was molested that way- it was a long time ago though- during the 60's I believe, in this one area that they were from.
