Look, you guys can complain all you want, but the fact is that I have been repeatedly harassed by a member here, to the point that I was considering leaving, when I remembered aylissa mentioning greasemonkey. It's a lifesaver for me b/c now I won't have to give up WP. I know I'm not the first person here to be harassed, nor will I be the last. So quit yer griping and judgements! I did try complaining to alex but none of the harassing posts/ signatures of this person were deleted.

Also greasemonkey would be a fantastic way to deal with spammers, if they ever return.

Lau is building a FAQ page in a thread in the WP discussion area. Post in his thread about adding this information to that thread.

Blanket statement

Not everyone gripes and not everyone judges; this statement in its own is exactly what I abhor about people assuming to know what they don’t know; childish insults mean nothing to me; blanket and fallacious statements directed on my mind and its conscious confuse me beyond Captain Caveman and his club.

I can only speak for myself and I wasn't griping nor was I judging anyone; I was questioning.

She may not have been referring to you.
It was not a childish insult.
And to say you abhor someone is a little strong, given the sentence you quoted.
Calm down.

Not only that, but she just posted about major HARASSMENT and you go off on her like that? That's a little rude, IMO.

Can a moderator please tell me why this thread cannot be stickied and locked? Its purpose is safety.

I'm opposed to stickying any threads and have recommended to other mods in the past that only Alex should sticky threads. This information can be put in a FAQ with a html link seperate from the forum at a future date perhaps. In the mean time it should be put in Lau's threads where he is trying to build a FAQ. And as a member here I do not support the widespread use of this ignore method anyway. I'm not in the camp of people who wishes to segment myself from others here.

   rofl

nice piece of irony.

Was it meant?

And I can understand wanting to block some posters. I have not had the experience of having a poster follow me about in forums and hassling me, but there have are a few members I could be tempted to block, just becuase I find them annoying.

The istructions on how to block would be better placed in the "Net Discussion" thread.

I will not be blocking anyone (these days I tend to quickly scroll down until I recognise an avatar), but its nice to know you can block.

Yeah it was.... Harassment to one human is entirely different to another human; if I were to block people who I subjectively find harassing; most of this forum would be gone...actually I'd just leave. (Can you block yourself?)

But I don’t want to run and ignore people forever....

Sometimes I want to have the ability to block as words can cut me to the quick and I hate that effect. I never seem to grow a skin as thick as I need.

You can un-block people any time. I've been using greasemonkey for a while now (I was actually the one who told alyssa about it, and I use lots of other scripts too) I do not usually block members, however lots of times I will block ones that annoy me when I am sick, or stressed and then later turn the feature off. Because when I am not sick or stressed, what I once found annoying I will find mildly amusing. :P

In any case, I have a VB forum and blocking members is a built in feature...not anything to really be shocked or upset about. After all, would you rather see two members constantly publicly annoying each other on the board, or just ignore each other?

God this makes so mad I could just...spam.
What is with you people that you can't think outside your own little box?
Ooooh, right, asperger's. Well let me inform you of something - we're all different.

And as women, the three of us on this thread who use this feature are being attacked about it by MEN.
How f*****g typical.
And none of you are getting any, if memory serves me right.

Maybe it's time to get a clue about how the other half lives - which is sometimes in fear of the men around us. We need to be able to protect ourselves from harassmant and abuse, it has nothing to do with segmenting ourselves, as if that's even a relevant issue here.

I think I'll just go away till somebody can assure me that this is a safe place, and apologize to those of us trying to make it a safer more enjoyable place. Bye.

who, moi? :?

And I don't quite get the blocking concept. When you block someone, do you just not see their posts? You would see replies, but not what prompted the replies. Sort of like the sound of one hand clapping :?

I hope I havn't upset you.

aylissa,

The only ad hominem “attacks” that I see is from you (which I don’t mind at all); I can speak for myself…and I’m just interested in knowing why people wish to run away from those who’re harassing them, I mean, it’s gotten me nowhere and I’d like to offer advice to people that’s helped me before; you don’t have to listen to it, you don't have to like it but you can at least cease throwing the same ad hominem attacks that you are accusing me of (which I'm not partaking in), because these same “attacks” is what causes harassment in the first place. It’s a never ending cycle that if you don't break it it'll continue forever. You can easily say, 'Daniel, I wish to continue running from what I fear, it is just too much for me now,' and I'll understand fully.

This forum is about conversations with depth, and if no one counters another person's conversation how can there be any depth to the conversation? Rather, it'll just be a lot of head nodding....

Okay, since no one else seems willing to do this,
I'm adding it to lau's thread myself. That's, quite simply,
where it belongs.
