i have a good amount of practice i think, 11 months of driving so far with the permit on lotsa different kinds of surfaces and settings. :afro:

the written test i passed on my first try, that being a stroke of luck, i think. i'm still young. it's not too much of a pressing matter...i hope?????! ! ! !

the bus isn't that bad??

don't think of it that way, think of it as opening up new horizons for you, you can drive all over the place that a bus can't take you and a taxi can't affordably take you. you can go places on a whim without having to worry about bus fare or taxi fare. think of this. what was the toughest part of the driver's test for you?

If you can't parallel park that means you don't know how to control the car properly, it's the whole point of learning how to do it. :S

^^ looking over your shoulder st the blind spot has snuck up on me twice, fatally the second instance, when not looking before crossing a bike lane to park was actually waived, because i did so well on checking earlier.

i drive well with music and the lack of it during the test, combined with a stranger with a clipboard in the car gets me tense.

my advice, should you choose to consider it, would be to find a friend to "dress up" as a driving examiner, have him get in the car with you and practice the driver's test several times before you do the actual driver's test.

what y'all can do is put your heads together and make it as much like an actual driver's test as you know how to do.

It's worth trying.

totally me! I can drive perfectly fine when I have someone in the car, even my dog! But if im alone I have no patience for stupid drivers or those who cant follow basic signs and rules of the road. So I get into a mini meltdown mode, and want to kill them (no I wouldn't really do that) but sure as heck feel like it!!

^ I was in a similar situation not long after I got my licence. As I was indicating to exit a roundabout, a long truck somehow pulled up alongside me blocking my exit. I'd never been in this situation before and I was slightly panicking. In the end I came up with a different "solution": I stopped my car while still in the roundabout and waited for the truck to pass before I exited! Luckily I didn't cause a crash that time, but the car behind me was beeping like "wtf are you doing?!". Ugh, instead of just going around once more and trying again ...

My youngest sister was like you though, Kip. She had gotten so used to driving with music as a learner, that she was worried she wouldn't pass her driving test without it. She had to slowly wean herself off it before the test. She got there eventually. I remember simulating a few test drives with her, too. It seemed to help.

Good luck on your driving test, Kip.

here we have few roundabouts (but many compared to other places in the states) so even with my license i also would panic if i was in that situation. the second time i failed my nerves were wrecked by the end, because i got yelled at since i didn't yield to incoming traffic for a left turn. but i think i already failed by that point anyway, because that was in the direction back to the DMV.

thanks :) i will have to take the written portion again, but that's coming up soon.

then tell yourself that since you did well on the written, that you CAN also do well on the practical driving test.

Yes! I've been trying to learn how to drive for 15 years now! It's impossible!

the right teacher can teach you, it is not impossible, I know this because I eventually learned how to drive when I found the right instructor for me.
