I don't think he'd make it in this day and age at least in this country, but I could be mistaken, who knows. I lost whatever remnants of religion I had left back then, only recently have I begun to recover it. I did not learn a thing in ninth grade except that God does not provide protection for the physical body or the mental state, that part is up to us. It is permitted that all manner of terrible things may happen to our body or mind. That was difficult to accept back then but now I accept it, just a part of being flesh.

If world history taught us (societal "us") anything, it's that bad things meant to be temporary always, always become permanent. Enhanced airport security. Patriot Act. Militarized police. Social distancing measures. Quarantines and lockdowns. Wearing masks. Riots in American cities.
On the same note, my alcohol habit at age 12 was meant to be a one-off thing, to help me feel better after traumatizing therapy. Guess what, I still drink frequently at age 37. Smoking during college was meant to be a stop-gap measure until I'm old enough to buy alcohol legally, which is more effective than cigarettes. Well, I still smoke, even if not daily. Having sex with an escort, at age 22, was originally supposed to be once and only once, to lose my virginity. I still have sex with escorts, albeit with a 3-year hiatus from 2017 thru June 2020.
So who's to day I won't be taking Effexor for life, even though I got it last year to pull myself out of depression? It's dirt-cheap under my insurance plan. And when I first started taking it, it sent me into massive euphoria! I even made out (snogged) with a woman in a nightclub after inadvertently mixing it with alcohol.
I don't view prostitution through a moral lense, it is a neutral business transaction, much like the massages that cost me $70 ($60 + $10 tip) an hour. It is really a question of how you want to spend your dough. There is a huge industry dedicated to separating guys from their scratch by catering to the sexual impulse, I urge caution. The cheapest product is porn, that is what I would recommend over escorts, although massage has its points. Best is to manage the impulse so it does not tax the finances or emotions too much.
I have already expressed my views on alcohol, I find absolutely no value in it and much potential harm. It is my opinion you open up a gateway on the astral plane during intoxication and beckon evil spirits to come into your world from the outside. They use human beings as their puppets.
Cigarettes are really anti-social these days, I never really felt tempted to indulge that habit. There are a lot of bad things put into cigarette tobacco, if you must smoke I'd recommend buying your own tobacco and rolling your own or using a pipe. I know most folks don't care, but I read about the ingredients that Big Tobacco puts in those things, and it is really an eye-opener.
I guess you pay your money, you take your choices. We are all going to die anyway, right?
i agree with you on all points here.
that which i hadn't considered thoroughly, your logic convinces me here.
very well put!
I don't know how much logic is in my message, mostly it consists of opinions and references to research (uncited). Could be you're employing sarcasm against an unarmed defenseless aspy or half-aspy (I always do things half-aspy) however, I have decided on advisement from my ego to take the message as sincere.

no sarcasm intended.
logic is in the comparisons made and so on. it's there...you just have to be an Aspie to see it

Well, you're nice.
I had bad experiences with drinking, tends to bring out the worse in me, and in others, never a pretty sight. If I can persuade others of nothing else, then I would just persuade them to put the bottle down. There's an evil djinni in that bottle.

Seconded. I'm a pretty mild drunk, with a huge tolerance for the stuff, but I pretty much quit drinking five years ago. It costs you too many half-days (hangover recovery), as well as costing you serious $$$$ unless you are drinking the cheap stuff...which will cost you in other ways. It shreds your viscera, and even if you are lucky enough to live a long time, it corrodes your appearance. It does your teeth and breath no favors, either. Quitting booze is one of the few good decisions I have ever made.

I tried it during painful recovery from an injury to help me sleep / numb the pain... as nothing else was working some days. It worked for that
I realized impatience , ill will and disproportionate anger was coming out of nowhere over that time. Not during but the next day or day after. It seemed to change my brain.
Not at first but over time the real effects came out. I was like this isn't how I think, what is happening.

I found the same. Grumpiness, depression, alienation, poor performance across the board. Physical appearance is impacted too, yes. I lost over a fifth my weight after I quit.
So, this is the way to explain the situation, if you do not happen to believe in the existence and prevalence of evil spirits. I find them a useful device however. Dread and repulsion are felt in the grocery store, looking at the bottles. I don't even feel a little bit tempted. Never again means never again.
Didn't mean for this to turn into an A.A. meeting but maybe it is a Public Service Announcement (PSA), especially in these stressful times that can be so tempting for people to use.

Airline sized bottles. Make the necessity for being inebriated cumbersome . Almost to much trouble as am leaning
Towards mixed drinks , so a big collection of varieties , to make favorite drinks . But not in any sort of quantity,
Just enough to take the edge off . Too pricey to consider to make a habit out of it , other than looking at cute miniatures of popular liquors .. as more of a miniature hobby ..More useful in a bad predicament than a doll collection .
And occasionally a method to relieve certain stressors . Not a favorite way.. but they are fun to look at ,
And if a family of knomes come to visit they can have a party .

There's a trillion dollar industry working to make alcohol sexy and alluring, the bottles are by far the most charming part. I read the police blotter every day and I can tell you all about the less charming aspects, DUI, domestic violence, obsessions, stalking, stealing. Many are disciplined enough to avoid winding up in the police blotter, they suffer quieter, less noteworthy consequences, for the most part, like my stepfather who died of cirrhosis of the liver, bloated, purple and helpless in his armchair, leaving his wife alone to deal with her own dementia.

Don't get me wrong---I know that booze can play a role in the most fantastic, idyllic lifestyle possible. Bright and witty pals, cozy pubs and classy bars, your selections on the jukebox ambient, chasing each shot with a drag on a divine cigarillo...perhaps the closest thing to Heaven that mortals are allowed.
But if you overdo it, it quickly becomes sordid.

When I was young, I did force myself to go out to bars to search for love but did not find only one-night-stands and a lot of ne'er-do-wells.
In the club scene, I have difficulty hearing over the noise. Even when I do hear, I find the background music distracting and have difficulty paying attention. Bartenders hated me because I was so thrifty I just ordered water and didn't tip, lol. It did not occur to my aspy brain that was necessary. In my mind, water was $1 so that was the obvious choice over $3 beer or $8 cocktail.
If I began dranking it was lights out quickly for me, all my energy just drained away, and I wanted to do nothing but sleep. I am not particularly robust to begin with, alcohol is not really suited to my constitution, so you could point to that and say "You're biased!"
So that is full disclosure. But I still maintain alcohol is bad even for the super-robust Vikings and Siberian warriors or whatever wide and tall macho men there are in the wild, hunting deer with their axes and running around naked in the frigid North, they would be better off mentally staying sober, then they may be witty and bright like you say. Drinking, they are going to get cruel and dull.

Perhaps. Or perhaps the lifetime teetotalers become cruel and dull. Bertrand Russell (I think) once wrote about how celibate Priests often seemed to end up pursuing cruel policies.
