I like interview questions when they are optional. And considering that other than my son, I don't actually know anyone in real-life who is on the spectrum...(although have met a small number through facebook) and have no insight into myself, the more contacts I make and the more familiar I am with WP the better.

What is your first name?
Can I stick with L? Please? Never got round to legally changing what I was lumbered with.
Age:
37( I have been asked for ID more than once in the last year..either I look younger or there is an organised conspiracy to laugh at me)
Location:
Yorkshire, Northern England
Current perseverations:
I would say none, as I type with raw fingers I have shredded the skin from. And I get angry about bad science, particularly about neurotransmitters.
When did you discover AS?
Dodged diagnosis for many years, on the grounds of "but I'm not that good at maths" . Unofficially diagnosed by my son's specialist teacher a number of years ago and officially diagnosed last year.
Do you have other psych diagnoses?
The usual gamut, anxiety, depression, social phobia..and one exotic which I'm trying to make sure doesn't become "official"..Body Dismorphic Disorder (I would not say I have "imagined Ugliness syndrome", I have "can't afford a nose job syndrome")- Aren't psychologists just like Paris Hilton, in that they both love labels?
Do you have a degree?
Not that they count for much other than ridding me of a massive chip on my shoulder , but BSc Neuroscience, working on getting through MSc Pharmacology and Biotechnology. (I left school at 16 with some mediocre GCSEs and a hatred of education, so some progress)
Kids?
One. He's nine, and he is me and I am him (he is diagnosed with autism, he's been literate and numerate since 4, but has echolalia and jargon dysphasia so his language makes little sense and is frustrating to most people)
Favorite music, other than NIN ?
Oh dear. A product of growing up in places where a fondness for Rollins/McKay/Albini/Danzig shouty noise was de rigeur, also fond of more laidback blues/folk/electonica things...I get a bit stuck on describing this well.(anyone would think I had some kind of communication problem :) )
Job
Student and both Good and Bad cop to my son. I loved the poster who referred to biblical Job, I identify with that one!
Relationship with significant other, past or present?
All very in the past. Maybe if I had any kind of social life...I'm sure I used to be better at faking normal than I am now.
Plans for the future?
I am no longer planning ahead, hubris got me once too often
Anything else you feel is pertinent
I've got so used to masking the wormwood of my basic nature with heaped spoonfuls of saccharine high camp, low humour and self deprecating melodrama I don't really know who I am anymore.

What is your first name?
Neil (I blame my parents - why couldn't they give me a good name?)

Age:
34

Location:
On floor in living room in Harrogate, UK

Current perseverations:
Running, cycling, films, old Apple Macs

When did you discover AS?
Heard about it about five years ago. Diagnosed with it nearly three years ago

Do you have other psych diagnoses?
Nope

Do you have a degree?
Yes - 2:1 Computer Science

Kids?
No...and no intention of having any

Favorite music, other than NIN Laughing
Dance music, Vivaldi, film soundtracks. And not a fan of the Reznor

Job?
Yes (sadly) - Analyst Programmer (for 12 years at various companies. Oh where has my life gone? What have I done to deserve this?)

Relationship with significant other, past or present?
Was married for 18 months (together 5 years) then divorced. Got engaged, she tried to kill me (domestic abuse), split with her (surprisingly). Currently single.

Plans for the future?
Have lunch. Beyond that just to get settled, find some stability and uncover 'the tryth' ('the truth' being that I was given up for adoption as a baby and that my actual parents are billionaires and that I'm heir to a vast fortune. After that it's 'Aston Martin time').

Anything else you feel is pertinent:
I like proving AS 'experts' wrong. I like confusing people. I like putting down people who see Aspies as being 'inferior' or 'mentally challenged'. I also like being able to prove that Aspies can do things, we can function in the NT world and that we can achieve things.

I'm fed up with people telling what I can/can't do or say simply because I'm AS - I'm a human being who happens to be an Aspie. I'm not a list of 'traits', 'symptoms' or a description in a text book.

I've attempted suicide once, I've self-harmed several times over several years, I've been dignosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and I'm really annoyed and frustrated by the lack of support and help available through 'official channels' (in the UK) for not only these things but also AS as a whole.

When did you discover AS? couple of years ago, reading about other parents' issues.

Do you have other psych diagnoses? i'm not diagnosed with anything because a. i haven't gone that route and b. i'm quirky and fine with it. if i were diagnosed i probably would perseverate about it......

Do you have a degree? yes

Kids? yes, lots, one with ADHD potential ODD and one ASD

Favorite music, other than NIN Laughing: hmm, ministry? or does that count as NIN? seriously. I like Interpol and the Hives, and the Ramones.

Job? not aymore, did for a long time, but i'm very disorganized.

Relationship with significant other, past or present? divorced and remarried.

Plans for the future? living....

What is your first name? Róisín

Age: 40. God that still feels weird to say, and I've been saying it since Sept. :?

Location: NYC

Current perseverations: Music (not getting into specifics right now, there's only so much people are willing to read), strength training, raw food/veganism, pre-1950s NYC, geneology, Dorothy Parker, postmortem photography, photography in general.

When did you discover AS? Actually heard of it the first time in 1984, when my younger brother was dx'ed. Figured I had it for awhile. Was actually dx'ed myself 9 years ago.

Do you have other psych diagnoses? Oi. Bipolar type 2. Mild OCD. PTSD. Literally every ED known to man, anorexia nervosa, BDD, and orthorexia being the most apparent. Panic disorder. Friggin' mess right here.

Do you have a degree? Too many, enough that no one believes me when I tell them (and when they get a look at me, they REALLY don't believe it!). BA in Philosophy, BS in Biochem, PsyD/MD, and most recently, JD. I also attempted a master's in public health, but didn't finish it. I guess you could say, for all my hatred of school over the years, I was obsessed with attending!

Kids? My daughter passed away in 1989.

Favorite music, other than NIN: Are you serious? I'll just copy and paste from my Facebook profile...I mostly listen to old punk (seeing as I basically AM an old punk), swing, doo-wop, ragtime, ska, big band, Irish trad and (decent) celtic rock, uncategorisable folks like Nellie McKay, the Dresden Dolls, Pierce Turner, the Unsettlers, and Gogol Bordello, rockabilly, psychobilly, pretty much any pop that predates me, Broadway showtunes, reggae, music with lots of superfluous accordions, cheesy 80s pop, and 80s new wave/'goth'...but that really doesn't tell you a damn thing, if you think about it. I could narrow things down by saying I like pretty much anything EXCEPT what they play on Z100, but again....doesn't tell you squat.

I'm unhealthily obsessed with Morrissey, Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, Freddy Cannon, Dion, Neil Sedaka, Robert Smith, Fats Waller, and Scott Joplin.

I'm sure I missed something, though....in fact, I'm certain of it.

Job? Officially, 'attorney awaiting admission to the bar'....that is to say, law school grad who's been too lazy to register for the Bar Exam yet.

Relationship with significant other, past or present? Married twice, lived with someone else I was briefly engaged to but broke it off cos he was an abusive bastard, currently with the cutest little Aspie freak in the free world.

Plans for the future? We'll see what happens. No more school, that much I can tell you!

Anything else you feel is pertinent: If I think of anything, I'll let you know.

What is your first name? See my profile.

Age: 35

Location: Finland

Current perseverations: Literature, philosophy, learning Japanese and French, fitness, older (french) movies.

When did you discover AS? I got to know the term in my early twenties. After that it took some time to realize that I may resemble people with AS to some extent. In my thirties I was finally ready to give up pretending there isn't anything wrong with me or my life and thus started to really study AS. Now, when I'm slowly approaching my forties, I'm actively seeking to be diagnosed and trying to make my life more my own (ie. suitable for a person with AS). Reading a lot about AS and socializing with people who either have been diagnosed or are self-diagnosed seems to be a big part of this process.

Do you have other psych diagnoses? As an adult: depression. As a child: restlessness, bad behaviour, disobeyance, but nothing major.

Do you have a degree? Several. Highest is a Master's degree in theoretical philosophy.

Kids? Luckily no. I'd probably have broken my kids just as badly as my (quite likely AS) parents broke me.

Favorite music, other than NIN  Classical music and older jazz goes always, electronical (especially goa-psy trance) goes quite often when I want to make myself agitated (not that often nowadays). I don't dislike any music as long as it doesn't hurt my ears, though.

Job? Had a job, quitted, went back to university and stuggled to find a job again. At the moment steadily employed.

Relationship with significant other, past or present? Some attempts at relationships have been made. The longest one, including almost 10 years living in the same apartment, produced one very unhappy NT female and a life-long friend but only after quite a many tears. A couple of shorter ones went pretty much along the same route: I wasn't capable of being as social as I'd like to be and ended up breaking my own spirits and hurting my significant others. At the moment I'm single and probably should stay that way, though I hate the idea of growing old alone.

Plans for the future? I take one day at a time. Having rather deep depressive thoughts I tend to think a day without feeling that I should end my days right at this instant is enough. Accepting my limitations and trying to find people with whom I could share my life with might be a long term plan worthy of my attention. But, at the moment, one day at a time.

What is your first name? Private.

Age: 18

Location: Toronto, Canada

Current perseverations: Trying to discover more about myself, and to discover more about AS so that I can cope with some of the problems that have been bugging me for a very long time.

When did you discover AS? I've heard about it from my mom about a year ago, but actually "discovered" it about two weeks ago.

Do you have other psych diagnoses? No.

Do you have a degree? No, still high school

Kids? No, and don't want to

Favorite music: I don't really listen to music

Job? No

Relationship with significant other, past or present? Looking for an AS boyfriend, which is an almost impossible task.

Plans for the future? To hopefully meet more people with AS and to get properly diagnosed.

I'm just wondering... how is this Dino-style?
