MMMMMMMMM Absinthe. I haven't had that since I lived in Italy. I'll have one.

We're breaking the law, Prof.

It can be depressing, fo'shizzle.

And then there are the parents:

"My kid freaked out a party."

Well, maybe he doesn't like parties.

"He needs to learn to like parties."

Why?

"Because it is part of life."

Not mine!

I am not welcome in the parents' forums. This one woman was desparate to make her child understand that the dog didn't have a soul and didn't think like HE did, by which she meant the dog didn't think like an NT because she certainly didn't understand how the son thought! I suggested she just let him talk to the dog, I knew children that talked to their dolls, but the kids knew they wern't other children. Sent me a private msg in which it was pointed out to me that I had no children to raise so I could not possibly be as concerned about their issues as THEY were. It seems she is afraid the child will not perform correctly in school and get marks that will forever stay on his record that he doesn't understand that dogs are not like people.

Some people. . . just where do you start with them?

Merle

Don't you just laugh when they all get self righteous? Because it's all about her and not her kid. That is all her PM said to me.

Didn't you get it, Merle? She was screaming, "It's all about ME. It's all about ME!" Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

We should send her some drugs. The kid would be grateful.

Yes, well, then, erm, onward..

yes it did warm up a bit.

Just don't loosen anything else, and keep a stiff upper lip (and mind nothing else is stiff)

I'd love to be able to talk to the Amish. I find it fascinating that they have been able to keep such an insular life and their culture intact amidst the urban sprawl around them. I've seen Amish pulling up to supermarkets in their buggies, and it is all I can do to stop myself from asking a thousand aspergerish questions!

I talk to them every summer. They surround my town. They form a moat for my insular German relatives. They're okay. They live up by my husband's father as well.

No, my German relatives are from Grafenhausen near the Black Forest. They settled in northern Alberta. I'm not personally related to any of the Hutterite people around here. I must look very much like a lot of them though because I get asked if I'm related to them all of the time.

moving on ...

(I feel like the conversation left me behind a coulple of pages ago)

... don't you hate it when someone recognises you somewhere and starts talking to you. You know you should be able to remember who they are, but you can't. And the longer it goes on the more awkward it is to ask their name?

I feel a bit like that now.

Hi ZanneMarie & Lau

I don't believe I've ever replied directly to your posts (there are so many members around I'm a bit selective these days). But if this was real life, now that I have seen you around a bit, I would be trying to smile at you and say hello.

well, I did think she was being selfish, but I thought it would be pretty rude to tell her so.

We probably all look alike. There are a lot of Volga Germans in Alberta. I have some of those who are originally from Florstadt, Germany and some who came straight here from Germany. My husband's pateral side is from the Volga as well and we didn't even know it until we'd been together for almost a year! LOL I was like, OHOH I hope we aren't related!

My forbears on my father's side are three brothers from Mainz, and settled in Pennsylvania with some splinter group called "The Brethern". They came into the british colonies and went to Bucks country in the middle 1700's. Stubborn and now that I know, Aspieish as all hell.
"Ver Gott in Himmel!" and "schnell, schnell" was said so much on my dad's side I thougt it was someone's name.

I don't care if I'm rude. I tell them all the time. Too bad if they don't like it. It's not like I'm going to be friends with people like that. If they try to hit me, coffee dude will get them. He grew up in the Bronx.

Yes, we had the Brethren as well in some cousins. That's Mach schnell! I think that's how it's spelled. My husband says it. All I can say is Das ist mein pizza and I don't even know if that's right!

You're going to make me break out in Ode to Joy again!

There were Mormons in the Volga, which I didn't know until I was looking for relatives.

He and I are not related. His family was Catholic and mine was Lutheran. They wouldn't have been in the same villages. That's verboten.
