I think childhood and innocence is the most beautiful of stages in our development as humans. I think, and I believe most mothers (and fathers), if they have a good grip on reality and the real best interest of their children in mind, would agree, and do everything in their power to protect that child's innocence and prolong that period of unadlterated wonder and awe called childhood. A twelve year old is a child. No, she won't get a disease or hurt by one. But she will get a disease by the predator who preys on her, and she will get hurt when they snatch her from her bed, rape her, lock her in a closet and bury her alive. The pursuit for sexual gratification is a highly overrated commodity. People have died from it. Too many. I'm not a prig. I don't care to discuss the particulars of my sex life, but it wasn't dull. I've had a full and wonderul monogomous relationship with my husband for 48 years. We are still highly attracted to each other. If an Amish woman objected to Postpaleos remark, granted, she may not have expressed her shock and repulsion in the way I did, but, would anyone be surprised or, in a sense, reprimand her for reaction? Why do certain groups of individuals who try to preserve the purity of their lives get respect and admiration for it, but single individuals who speak out for those same ideals get rebuffed with all of that "it's a free world" BS? Society's obsession with sex and gratification, created by the mass media, has put our children's lives in peril, and stunted the growth of their spirits.
Are you saying there is to be no psychobabble OR whining on WP?
What am I going to talk about then?
LOL There is, but I try to stay away! Talk about whatever you want. That's what we all do. If you like that psychobable stuff, Sophist (I think that's the name) has a forum you'd like. She had a post in the General section about diagnosis. I think I read her mother was a Psychologist so that's her thing.

Are there people here that are into nature? More so than people things? Does anyone here hike or go for walks on nature trails? I used to like to do that before my back became the bane of my existence. I'm not a good swimmer, but I like being around the water. I like to see the sun on it. Or the moon. Lights reflecting.
Well, enjoying nature, and animals is an ASpie trait. I'm amused by watching the bunnies that come into my yard to nibble at the block of birdseed I put out. The sparrows are funny, sometimes challenging the bunnies for the food. Cheeky little devils ! ! I find bird behaviour fascinating, and would go birding if my back didn't ache for a week every time I try to carry a pack ! !!

I get very restless and need a lot to do. I need to be productive somehow, while online. The last site I WAS trying to work on my communication skills and failed miserably. Everything seems so easy for some NTs.
The nice thing about this place is that I haven't been picked on yet. Thinking back, I believe it's been about a year since I wasn't picked on every day by someone online. It's been a week.
I need to be doing something online. I like helping people, especially to find things. And I like interior design/decorating and doing people's rooms (in pictures and altering them in an application).
There's nothing like that to do here. I'm kind of purpose-oriented. I want to be talking about ideas, I guess. I don't have family to talk about, no neat old photos. I don't have anything to add to those conversations. Although...
Chuck:
The walk in the woods sounds wonderful. That's the kind of thing I would like to be doing too. I'll be moving sometime this year, and hope to get someplace that has that option of wilderness nearby. It doesn't need to be a huge area, just enough to give me a spot to wander to and from.
I've never seen flying squirrels. People want to travel to places. I want to see certain things. Like those bugs that light up at night. I think that would be incredible. And Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon. Maybe Niagra Falls? I want to see a Cardinal. It must be neat to have bright red birds around.

True,
Alex lets people write articles on here and things. There used to be a Dear Aspie column as well. What about something like that? That might be a good outlet for you.
You would love monument valley and the Grand Canyon. You'd probably also like the Badlands and all the Mammoth digs between there and Rushmore. There are also all kinds of caves around Mount Rushmore and up in the Black Hills. Southern Utah is also magnificent. It's just astounding, even when you look down at it from a plane. Sedona is another good place. There are endless places right here in the United States, True. I will never get to see them all.
I love to go on the nature trails. I even like to go down into the Everglades and take the airboat rides even though the sound bothers me.

Cosmic,
My brothers and father would agree with you. I'm surprised they let my husband around me to be frank, but I was older and in college then. When I was young though, no boy could get near me without meeting them. I always say five brothers are the best form of birth control!
For me it was a case of knowing all about it from books and not really understanding any of it because I couldn't read men at all (or women for that matter) and I didn't know the difference between a friend and a predator. I treated everyone like they were part of my family to be honest. I think that was exacerbated by the fact that I lived in a small town where there was never crime because everyone knew everyone else's business. If a strange drove through it was big news and made it through the phone lines in minutes.
Even so, what Post said would have went over my head because everything did back then (and much of it still does). I might be playful with my own husband (48 years is great by the way!), but when other men touch me or crowd me I freeze and freak out. I probably give off mixed signals. My dh says I will tell anyone anything because I have no filters about what I should say. He's always worrying about it.

Hah... boy do I have a few projects for you. Want to design the remodel of a small bathroom? I already have a plumber and tile guy lined up. I don't use this bathroom so there are no time constraints (but there are budgetary constraints, of course). Really, if you are bored and want to have a go at it, PM me.
I am far more into nature than I am into people things. I use my time spent in the natural world to recharge.
BTW for you spider-phobic folks, I'll change the avatar today. I need to find something good to substitute for it. (Clearly, spiders don't give me the heebie-jeebies at all; that's my hand in the photo. "Heebie-jeebies" over animals or insects is part of the missing programming in my head. This caused some amusing incidents when I was a child... amusing to me, anyway.)
<raises hand to spider phobia> When I was young, my brothers told me that if a spider bit me, I woul die. LOL Of course, being two I believed this nonsense. So one day my mother is in the garden and I am swinging on the swing. I had on this spice colored blouse with a spinning wheel on it of all things. I looked down and a spider was crawling up my chest toward my throat. I was so scared, I couldn't even scream. It made it into my hair before one of my brothers finally noticed and got it out. Ever since then, if they even more, I completely freak out. It is a true phobia and completely irrational (although they do love to bite me and get me every chance they can). I must have something in my blood that attracts them. Mosquitoes on the other hand never bother me.

Seconding (or thirding) the recommendation of Sophist's forum, asdGestalt. I quite like it.
Was going to post earlier-but when I tried to quote, the MySQL error "screen of death" came up instead !
Am not talented nor inclined to refer to self in third-person descriptive asides. Hence my not saying this sort of thing: "shuffles outside for a solitary smoke in the shadows, while occasionally casting glances through window at the convivial crowded groups inside."

LOL That's probably why! It's kind of like that cat thing where if you hate cats they love you. I can be sitting anywhere and if there's a spider around, it will head straight for me. It's the oddest thing! I hope I wasn't a fly in a former life. Remember that old move, The Fly? Help me! Help me! And the spider is going for him in the web. EWWWWWWWWWW

Edit. That didn't work. Here's the link me at 25
Ah! It would appear that www.savefile.com only does file transfer. I.e. you can upload anything you like (up to 60MBytes) and that can be downloaded as many times as you like - but that doesn't mean "viewed". I've been using
ImageShack for images. They explicitly say that they allow direct links. My own webspace (with my IP) doesn't allow some file types, which is really quite irritating.
PS. Nice telephone. I've got one of those.

I still have that old thing. I can use it during a hurricane! Good deal about ImageShack. I get irritated when I can't figure out how to do something. I want to know everything right now! I'm so impatient.
I found pictures of me as a little kid. I'll have to put those up! LOL They are hilarious!

The picture didn't bother me in the least. Phobia of mine? I dunno if it's fair to call it that, love spider webs and I don't go wrecking them along with the spider in them. Pretty much leave the good spiders in the house alone. I think it was Laus wonderful discription of one walking on him, that has given me pause to rethink it. I think if the chance comes, I'd like to feel it too.

PS. Up to 17 tabs now (added Hendriks' math puzzles, Elegant Universe, YouTube Lexx - 02x03 - Lyekka, a WP PM, a WP search for the FW address, and FM itself. Hm. That means I closed one tab since last time. I re-used the Wikipedia tab for a couple of other things.
Back to FM...
Been meaning to ask you this, since your post about downloading the entire worlds knowledge base and getting a blip about your bandwidth being used up or some such thing. Back in the "old" days of the alt world, the little place we called home, we didn't let in the posts with the huge downloads, mostly pictures I think. This is old for me to think about, might not get this right. I think we had to set up the filters on our addon browsers, but something a long the lines of they could slip through and if we post such a thing to give fair warning to our English freinds. Something about only being allowed so much time or bandwidth or some such thing? Is that still in place? Hope you can sort through that ramble and make it make sense. I was thinking that's why we weren't seeing you for a little, not that your system was giving you a hassle.
