not a problem, HankPym, it was all a long, long time ago.

oh, gawd, you are absolutely right. I am sure if someone were there to care for me when I needed help, my strength would be much less and I could fit into the norm and not disturb those mediocre lives around me that feel the need to patronize my social shortcomings.

saw a few English/Irish folk bands...also with my parents..Saw Fairport Convention when i was about 12.

My first early-adolescent rock club experience was They Might Be Giants in 1990....went with my dad.....then Dread Zeppelin..went with my dad and his friends...

It pains me to admit this now, but my first arena concert was Ratt in 1983. I was in 7th grade. Bon Jovi was the opener. My tastes in music have greatly expanded since then.

Oddly enough, my first concert was Garth Brooks when I was 11.

I say oddly because I am more of a heavy rock fan now and regularly go to concerts to see acts such as Three Days Grace, Sevendust, Disturbed, Staind, Breaking Benjamin, Skillet, Papa Roach, etc.

we didn't know when we arrived and had to walk miles to the makeshift stage in the farm pasture because all the roads were closed that we finally got to Woodstock, and were half a million strong and everywhere was the song and the celebration.
I developed kidney stones and was going in and out of labor when I was passing them but I remember, when I heard richie havens break a guitar string and spent forever trying to tune up on the stage, that I was amazed that along with everything else, there was going to be music, too!

...waiting for more of THAT story...

yeah me too...come on Merle!

My first concert was Def Leppard in 1989. I was a freshman in high school and the only way my parents would let me go was if my dad took me. They didn't let anyone else go with me either. My dad sat in his seat with his arms crossed over his chest, scowling, the whole time.

I saw U2 in 1993 as my first concert.

Oddly enough, the LAST concert I was at, in 2005, was also U2 (and I was 7 mos pregnant, front row floor for that one.) Or maybe not odd, considering I've only ever seen 2 other bands play live.

Oddly enough, I had never seen any live shows before coming to the US. My first was a free KROQ show, Ruth Ruth and Everclear at Santa Monica beach in 1995. It was very loud and my ears had been ringing for a couple days after that. The only thing louder was the machine gun practice we had at high school. My ears were ringing for a week after that... Anyway, soon thereafter I got pretty disappointed in mainstream hipster culture and switched to the undergound genres. The loudest show ever must've been Fu Manchu at Viper Room, but by then I could take quite a bit of sound pressure. Coming back to my first show, Ruth Ruth released an excellent second album "Are You My Friend" which has great melodies and rather sick lyrics. I think their lead man/songwriter had some serious personality problems. Everclear, on the other hand, proved rather shallow in retrospect. These days I'm into different music though, as you can see in my profile.

Rush, it was 1984 and I was a senior in high school. When they came onstage it was like watching the gods on Mount Olympus. I used to be a frequent concert goer but that was when concerts only cost $15.

Yes, it was the Grateful Dead, seen at least 60 shows in 3 years time,
err actually I lost count of the number, just followed them for about 3
years not missing hardly a show and I know there was more then 20 shows a year,
coast to coast, 1986-1988.
It was a long strange trip.

Come down off your throne
And leave your body alone
Somebody must change
You are the reason
I've been waiting so long
Somebody holds the key
Well, I'm near the end and I just ain't got the time
Well, I'm wasted and I can't find my way home

Come down on your own
And leave your money at home
Somebody must change
You are the reason
I've been waiting all these years
Somebody holds the key
I'm near the end, and I just ain't got the time
Oh, and I'm wasted, and I can't find my way home

But I can't find my way home

now I have revealed how old I am to remember Ginger Baker back when Speed Killed.
