Mother's Day? Oh, yeah dates and time, I sort of remember that concept. That means the wild leeks are about ready to be gathered and the Jack-in-the-pulpit's are up in that one special spot. I don't know if I'll go into the woods to see them and dig a few leeks. I just might this year.
Local costum, the ham and leek super. Volunteer outfits like fire companys make money putting them on. Yeah life in small town, wild rural county America can be interesting. I do so much like watching the red necks graze. I like them (rednecks) in their own way and enjoy playing with them, in their rites of passage and play time. It used to be if you ate a raw wild leek, they'd send you home from school. Powerful stuff. Cook them and you won't have such a hard time mating. Cows that get into them will give a very special blend to their milk, lol. You have to beat the deer to them, they like to graze on the tops of them, just like the cows. Jack in the pulpits are a local orchid. Might be the only one here, in my neck of the woods. They haven't made a local costum of the orchids, but I bet more then a few red necks know those special spots. They just don't talk about them in polite red neck conversation.
I have seen the wild ginseng, I think, not sure. Most certianly they're on the north side of the hill in my back yard. Someday maybe I'll try and seperate them from the over all woods. I just need to remember to replant the berry if I need to take a root home and dry it. They're neat to see as they dry and shrival into all the wild shapes. Ya, I like the shapes. No two ever alike. Don't know why I would do such a thing, unless, unless it's good in coffee. Probably no need to go look at the flowers or gather leeks either, I think I just did. I do wonder, now, if the wild ginseng is good in coffee.
