that's what i like about wrongplanet, i never encountered such a remark, nor did anyone mention that i'm strange, i feel so very normal here.
(like i once said and Inventor reminded me of that "I once was a special person, now I'm just a normal Aspie")

That's what I love about this place too. To feel 'normal' and accepted even in full 'Aspie mode'...I waited almost 50 years to find this feeling. I never thought I would, really. It is very good to be a 'normal Aspie'. :)

I would like to read more Beckett now, and I am happy to follow your Prof's reccommendations as I know so little of his work. I will order the Malloy trilogy from our local library. I love discovering new writers (well, new to me) and ones who are on the same wavelength~wonderful!

i wish i could order english books from my local library,
but they haven't even got Beckett in French ... :-(
(which would be appropriated cause Beckett wrote most of his books first in French)
but i might go to the library in Brussels

tell me about it when you read it, ok ?

VC's avatar reminds me of a British actor who was around oh, 10-15 years ago. Grrrr, I can't remember his name though. If I can remember his name and find a photo, I'll post it.

Oh, I hope you can get some Beckett...have you tried Amazon? I buy a lot of second-hand books from there, they are a lot cheaper than new.

yes, I'll tell you about it when I've read it.

For Starr & Lemon- I'm shocked you didn't know what it was because I thought American junkfood had saturated the global market. Fruit Loops isn't sweets or candy, though honestly it probably should be considered it. It's a children's breakfast cereal that been around over 30 yrs. See the spokesman for Fruit Loops is a cartoon character called Tucan Sam hence why I sent Fruit Loops to Thyme.

Lemon- do they not have jellybeans in Belgium? I always thought that was an international candy. Well I hope you got Jelly Belly brand jellybeans when you were in London because those are the best (aside from the Harry Potter Jelly Bellys). I love the buttered popcorn & Dr. Pepper flavored ones.

The conversation reminds me of British penpal I had years ago. We used to swap candy/sweets, books and CD's through the mail. It was kinda funny I guess to send candy to another country I mean with the price of postage and all, but it was fun. I still remember when I got a Santa Claus cookie from a British bakery and still intact. I miss you Ian whereever you are! Those were the days getting 20 page letters by snailmail. I don't think people do that anymore.

Well if anyone in Europe wants to swap goodies let me know. :)

I have a bag of candy corn on my desk as I type. I was just thinking people outside the US people don't get that right since its sorta a Thanksgiving candy? Or maybe Halloween/Thanksgiving, not sure.

So Ticker has a sweet tooth? :D

We should take this thread on a tour of Cadbury FActory in Hobart and kill it with an overdose of chocolate.

IMO, Cadbury is the world's best chocolate. I don't like Hershey.

I don't really have a sweet tooth. I mean I do like a piece of candy every once in awhile. I have a bad habit of buying candy when its on sale and never eating it. I think I just buy it for the pretty colors or sometimes even nostalgia as in the case of the candy corn and pumpkins because it brings back good childhood memories. And I don't have many good childhood memories.

Actually I'm more of a salty snack kinda person and love cheetos and potatos chips. Or crisps in some parts of the world.

I just like trading things from other countries. Always had a fascination for Europe and Asia.

You'll probably throw something across the pond, but I like Hersheys better than Cadburys. Though Cadbury carmellos and fruit and nut bars are good. But there's nothin better than Hershey's Take 5 Bar, Reeses cups, Symphony (blue wrapper) or the new Truffle Kisses.

I've been put on a very strict diet by dr so allow me to at least TALK about junk food since I can't have it anymore.

I interrupt this threadkilling thread to ask -

Does anyone have a recipe for Elk roast? My friend gave me two roasts. I've already ruined one by just baking it with A-1 Sauce on it. Anyone know how to cook it so its not so gamey? I'm allergic to onion, garlic and red chili, so need some other ideas.

I've cooked Deer, Buffalo and even ground up Elk, but this roast is more gamey. I think its from the flank of the animal if that makes a difference.

Never had elk (Wapiti in NZ is the same species, I think).

One of my favorite things to do with game meat is to make risotto.

Cook some (a whole roast may be too much) covered in stock in a slow cooker/crock pot (don't know if US has another name). When its tender/done (8 hours?) use the stock to make the risotto, break up the meat and add to the rice (if the meat is cooked long enough, it should almost fall apart by itself). I like to add kalamata olives too.

Another thing some guys do is marinate the meat in orange juice overnight. They say the citric acid helps break down the gameyness.

Gotta admit, Reeses Cups are very very nice :D (they are the ones filled with peanut butter, right?)

Never had the others. When I said I don't like Hersheys, I meant just plain milk chocolate. Hersheys seems to have an odd (to me) flavour.

Do you get Turkish Delight in the US?
I don't mean the traditional stuff, but choc coated .....

When I look at them the phrase non-nutritive cereal varnish comes to mind. If you saw the movie Christmas Vacation. I loved them as a kid they were so sugary-sweet!
