Didn't Stevie Winwood do the vocals for that song? And is it just me or is he a little off-key?

Come again? Did I hear you right?

Mandatory military education. Good old Soviet Union. Don't know if that's still going on in Russia, I left years ago, but when I was in high school that's how we got ready to defend against American imperialists. I wonder if MSCC and JROTC here have weapons practice?

Yes, Winwood...

And Hah! Had to look it up... I was 14, clueless... Didn't know at the time I was witnessing greatness. Too busy being distracted by the teenage girls around me. 8O

Actually think it was my second "live" concert. Our school (In Canada at the time, 8th grade) hosted a dance-band, whom I believe were some starting members of the "Poppy Family". Have to go through my old annuals if I can find them............................Nope...

(post edit here: Yes, It was the Poppy Family -- Satwah Singh, Terry Jacks, Craig McCaw, Susan Jacks, Vancouver BC, late 60's.)

RE: your thread-starting comment:

Yes... the loudness of some concerts annoyed me too.

It was 1976? (my memory's bad for dates) David Bowie, The thin white duke, at the Hammersmith Odeon. He rocked. 8)

Chicago (the group, not the city, anyone remember them?). 1973. Madison Square Garden.

Why do people go to concerts when they can buy a cd?

It's easier to sneak into concerts than to steal cd's. :)

Cause they didn't have CDs back then. It was a medium that was very true to the music, called vinyl. Not many concert Long Play Albums, either. Studio cuts just don't have the energy.

CDs' or any recorded music is a very poor, second rate copy of the dynamics that happen, when musicians play live.

I went to a Rush concert in the 80's, I wasn't a fan particularly, a friend dragged me a long because she had no-one to go with. Our seats at the front right by the speakers...it was a baptism of fire really, it was so loud I couldn't hear for three days later, but once my ears had stopped bleeding I was OK, lol, I liked them after that.

Diana Ross in the late '70s (yep, the disco days! LOL), mainly because I had friends who were major fans, though I did like what she was doing then. A while back I made a list of the concerts I've been to & there were more than I'd realized. I haven't been able to afford to go to all that many, and have been more inclined to buy the music than to go to a concert.

Not with Yes. Damn, John Anderson NEVER could hit the notes live.

Funny...my old band Rosebud was an opener on this bill in Houston....for a free radio promo show...small world.....

The first live concert I was at was the Lilith Fair show. I went with my (future) step-brother. I have only been to one other concert (Fiona Apple).
