Parallel

Do I belong
Inside or out
Need to know
You or them
The new scary
The old dark
Split in half
Where do I go
Who do I ask
Will they know
Inside myself
Want to escape
Be free of this
It needs to end
Chaos, confusion
Somebody listen
Anger, sadness
Nt's or Aspies
Stuck in between
Its hurting me
Help me see
Need to find
The real me

River - Joni Mitchell

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on

But it don't snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on

I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I made my baby cry

i've listened to this song for years, but it wasnt until today that i really thought about it and tried to understand it.

Bad Religion - Tiny Voices

the brown and orange sky holds its breath
as the sun retreats to the distant horizon,
and our hearts palpitate anxiously as we soon will lay supine,
and wait for sleep to overcome us

and from somewhere in our dark,
subconscious minds when we're asleep,
comes a haunting swirling mass of voices resonating
it screams of forgotten victims and their cries of innocence,
and their desperate plea for recognition and recompense

tiny voices, echoes of our heritage,
our long and sallow faces turn the other way,
tiny voices, harbored deep within
as we outwardly deny that they have something to say,
and if we don't confront them they will never go away

the billions of tiny pinhole embers fade into a morning sky
filled with poignant morose wonder,
waking a bear a cosmetic peace that verifies the turmoil
which we carry deep inside

it really makes me wonder if the 13-billion year old atoms in our bodies and brains really carry little bits of memory from their eons of usage.

Snow Flakes

A Snow Flake fell upon the ground.
Soon there were snow flakes falling all around.
Those snow flakes fell without a sound.
And soon they covered, the whole town.

People are like snow flakes, all different shapes and sizes.
We all tend, to go our seperate ways, with seldom compromises.
Sometimes we stick together, just like the snow flakes do.
Sometimes we choose a different path, it's up to me and you.

Sometimes the wind takes snow flakes, where they don; t want to go.
It's just the same with people, there are some that you might know.
But snow flakes have a reason, that they were put upon this earth.
When springtime comes and snow flakes melt, they help bring about rebirth.

So when you see a snow flake, falling from the skies above.
It's just another way that God, sends us all his love.
Snow flakes stand for purity, and on a moonlit night.
You can see the world, all dressed in winters white.

People are like snow flakes, some are big and some are small.
But don't think that there all alike, because they are not like that at all.
People just like snow flakes, have some differences you see.
But all in all there special, just like you and me.

Written by Doc Wilde.

I always feel a little restless this time of year...here we have short, cold days and too busy with Christmas stuff...I'd love to fly away to somewhere remote and just chill. If I can find a flying snowman, I'm off! Lol. Always wanted to see the aurora borealis.

Walking in the Air ~ Snowman lyrics

We're walking in the air
We're floating in the moonlit sky
The people far below are sleeping as we fly

I'm holding very tight
I'm riding in the midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you

Far across the world
The villages go by like dreams
The rivers and the hills
The forests and the streams

Children gaze open mouth
Taken by surprise
Nobody down below believes their eyes

We're surfing in the air
We're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over icy
Mountain floating by

Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep
Arousing of a mighty monster from its sleep

We're walking in the air
We're floating in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly

brfandan, do you read Walt Whitman? He touches on that theme quite often in Leaves of Grass. :)

Great snowflake poems, here is one sort of similar. :)

A smile fell in the grass.
Irretrievable!

And how will your night dances
Lose themselves. In mathematics?

Such pure leaps and spirals ----
Surely they travel

The world forever, I shall not entirely
Sit emptied of beauties, the gift

Of your small breath, the drenched grass
Smell of your sleeps, lilies, lilies.

Their flesh bears no relation.
Cold folds of ego, the calla,

And the tiger, embellishing itself ----
Spots, and a spread of hot petals.

The comets
Have such a space to cross,

Such coldness, forgetfulness.
So your gestures flake off ----

Warm and human, then their pink light
Bleeding and peeling

Through the black amnesias of heaven.
Why am I given

These lamps, these planets
Falling like blessings, like flakes

Six sided, white
On my eyes, my lips, my hair

Touching and melting.
Nowhere.

Rainbows, like dreams, don’t stay long
Time moves slowly calm through storm
Northern lights in the sky - shines colour in your eyes
Mystic hues of the night - Borealis so bright

Psychedelic dream time - Psychedelic dream time

Stars like moonbeam guide lost ways
Travellers trace time - night through days
Southern lights in the sky - shines colour in your eyes
Mystic hues of the night - Australis so bright

Psychedelic dream time - Psychedelic dream time

Turn sunshine into rainbows - rainbows into dream time
As they journeyed, they saw the Northern Aurora
And as they journeyed, they saw the Southern Aurora
They saw Dream Time

That's a beautiful poem/song (?) who wrote that one, was it an Aborigine poet? It has that feeling about it.

Aurora poems/songs seem to be pretty rare. Found another one though :)

Lisa Wheeler

Aurora Borealis

Aurora borealis--
Amazing northern lights!
You're a rolling, ribboned rainbow
Seen on northern nights.

Aurora borealis--
Floating, waving light!
Your softly shifting patterns
Slide from dim to bright.

Aurora borealis--
I wonder what you are?
You're as new as any rainbow,
As old as any star.

I love the snow theme poems, guys! Thanks everyone for posting, this is a nice thread to pop into for an antidote to seasonal stress, isn't it. :D

Cool, I will have to check that out! I've only discovered them recently, so I'm still high on Nemo and Sleeping Sun.

Here is a poem I tried to write about the Northern Lights when I was younger, I didn't get far though. Of course then I thought all poems had to rhyme.

Caustic green like a nuclear river
Through the dark like an eel they quiver
The cold wind blows, oh how they shiver

Hundred mile long jade wavering kites
I've spent many mad winter's nights
Tripping out on the northern lights

The Ballad of the Northern Lights

And the skies of night were alive with light,
with a throbbing, thrilling flame;

Amber and rose and violet,
opal and gold it came.

It swept the sky like a giant scythe,
it quivered back to a wedge;

Argently bright, it cleft the night,
with a wavy golden edge.

Thanks! That's a great song, made even better by her haunting voice. Don't know about the outfit, though. :P
