Serial joke swapping is the most difficult human humor experience to engage in because; to be effective one must have a indepth understanding of the basics of the neurotypical human condition and you must be fast. You have to know the boundaries of good taste and you must know your audience. You must also be able to bring like minded humans to your side of the humor rationale. You finally must develop a joke plot that acts as an anchor. The anchor is the literal logical premise you make the foundation of what is called a "Running Joke!" If your foundation is sufficiently funny the running narrative should be shaped to always give you many options in shaping a reply to any possible plot twist. Engaging in a running joke is like playing chess on a clock set to insane speeds. Being able to keep up with the cadence of the jokes while keeping them funny is called comic timing.

So yes an autistic person with advenced enough self management systems can engage in running jokes but as you see in my explanation you must be old, wise and or very advanced. I can do well because I have been studying NT's and their world intensely for almost 60 years.

Sometimes I can. But other times, it takes me too long to think of a joke. Or I tell a joke, but no one gets it.

I suck at telling jokes. To me they sound funny, but to everyone else, they're not funny. Think it's the facial expressions...telling a joke with a deadpan face doesn't really convey humour so much. Also. I keep forgetting the punchline...or telling inappropriate jokes to inappropriate people..
