I say this with all respect and consideration Plant but I think you need to relax and take a moment (or weeks or months) to just let stuff settle down and right now not try to second guess or question everything as I can see your mind working and for a lot of us that can be dangerous. You're perfectly normal but you're also different and don't let people try and tell you that is a bad way to be. If you get to feeling really apprehensive go back to the docs and ask for some medication to get you through the transition period. I'm being very serious here. No point is screwing up a perfectly good mind with unnecessary clutter.

yea, i'd say your precisely right. though it seems i haven't been entirely articulate about what i'm saying. it seems to me that doing ones own research about aspergers - reading books on the subject, finding articles in psychology journals, talking to other aspies, even having a friend or relative do all this with you - is just as fine a way as any institutionalized alternative
i recommend doing all of the above, be holistic about it, and don't neglect anything that may come to mind - figure out how to articulate it

Let's face it. NTs don't understand aspies - even the one's who've accidentally bonded with one aspie don't often find other aspies palatable.

And we, for the most part, don't get along with each other. In another decade or two, the rare people who look back to our transitional era will shake their heads in amazement at how badly ill-informed people can misunderstand things.

Look at us- twenty thousand or so viciously misunderstood people attempt on this site to communicate with each other about what's really happening to them and what happens?

It's interesting to just look backwards 10 or so years and see how much progress we have made so far in the 'educational' process but we have 1000's of miles to go.
Here's a quote I use from HansMeader that i've always enjoyed:

The difference between tolerance and equality is great. The former implies variation in evaluation and condescension toward the "inferior" group or person. Equality acknowledges that there may be differences, but that they are nonetheless of comparable value.

Was too shocked to be writing in here since discovering my AS.

Thought it was bad to have Autistic nature (thought wrong) I wish I could un puff my chest and change my handle to Vulcan (Name of the the Cast Iron Ford 3.0) instead of Big block (from my 460ci F250). Oh well any ways...''

Starting to feel at ease and comfortable with it.

Gonna Bring my strengths to this site now.

still a butterfly, but I know which way the wind will take me.

In Canada Pros are free, so i'm gonna tolerate one until he comes up with, a plan!! ! (appointment)

I hope he's quick. likely he's in it for the money, Like a mechanic, Leave it on the hoist for a week and fix stuff that isn't broken, while the hours rack up. $$$$$$

Need some (Case Closed) action, although I don't really believe in the psychiatry profession,
Trying to figure out the mind of man with a textbook view on it. following pre conceived notions and unoriginal diagnostic techniques. Self righteous pill pushing group. 'Go be real doctors'

Oh well lets see if he can crush this stereo type. But one chance.
Not worth breaking my brain to see whats different in there.

Ill take the pill if he takes it first. A good whole some person doesn't need chemical brain alteration. I hope he understands the problems with a medicinal pre occupation.
Luckily AS isn't medicated, just its side effects, unfortunately I have some , So sometimes a panic that knocks my wind out requires their adivan crap, but otherwise they can take their own drugs.

Looks like i'm going to waste his time. But from my perspective, it could be entertaining.
Gonna quietly analyze him.('8)') .

Most of what I have seen around here Is fun to Read. Good fun around here.

i think whats more sensible to be facing considering whats being said is that "understanding" is dependent upon intention and it makes much more sense to say that peoples intentions don't match up. it seems theres a surplus of intentions that assume immediately others are reneging upon them, its rather inane...

what i say i'd imagine are applicable to anyone who has the intention to forget about labels and understand their congnition with the least amount of rigidity, to achieve some kind of intuitive fluency. though intuitive is a word often misunderstood in my notorious opinion

Weeelll, I don't know about that. Intentions are all very well, but where the differences between aspies and normals are concerned, I think "don't understand" has a weight of its own that's relevant. So does my partner, but she means something different by it.

To go back to the original thrust of this thread, formal diagnosis: the closer I get to one the more meaning I think it has. I suppose that's an aspie thing too.

Every One and thing has a reason for being.
Doctors do as they do. (Smart people Trying to do right by society)

Asperger's Syndrome, a communication condition? ing?
Being blind to others?, others blind to you?

Objectivity (Doctor) rather than subjectivity (affected).

(':?:')

Further thoughts in 460 degrees personal notes in blog.

well i'd say intent is exactly what i mean and i'm not talking about boding malevolent or benevolent intent or anywhere between that polarity... i mean to say that as far as what i've been typing is only intent upon my idea and response to this initial question. So to go back to the original spirit of this thread, i'm giong to say that while some will see formal diagnosis being meaningful hence important, i will say that self initiative is more reliable, rigorous and trustworthy.

so far as...

Quote:
Objectivity (Doctor) rather than subjectivity (affected).

it's just not so true. for instance my psychiatrist has on more than one occasion with me scheduled a future appointment only to say ten minutes later as we walked back into the lobby "did they tell you when your next appointment is?" riiiiight. i'm not comfortable leaving questions of my mental health to some kind of borg commune. it's also become clear since then that he has been using an outright imbecilic criterion for diagnosing my medication; i pushed him into admitting that my appearance, often marked with some clay and paint, and whether or not i am late for the appointment do actually in some way or another factor into myyy "treatment". Such judgements are totally absurd in my opinion, they bear no truth of anything so objective; they are only indicative of a process that objectifies an individual, ignoring the idea that there being differences only indicates that there are things that vary in unlikeness.

to imagine i'm being blind to the rest of this thread is to ignore the possibility that i'm actually answering it entirely; though perhaps i am not responding to something out there, in which case i recommend one brings it up in the conversation

This is the reason doctors aren't supposed to diagnos or treat themselves and neither should poeple who suspect they are on the spectrum. It's like getting a second opinion. why not.

Look diagnosis - or its lack - isn't going to make very much difference to your understanding of the condition.

Working with an experienced and sensitive practitioner might be able to make some difference - if only in the contacts he or she can make for you in the real world. It might just add to your confusion.

The thing is, the whole political thing around autism and aspergers has the potential to make life changing differences to sufferers - knowing and unknowing - and their families, through quite a few decades to come. If, as self aware, reflective individuals we can't see our way clear to helping somehow in that domain, then - really - we're part of the problem not part of the solution.

I was so intensly resistant starting here.
I read some ones thoughts and smile thinking 'If that thought was in my mind I would have explained it in a similar way' I notice that most peoples writing make me feel this way.

One can not say any thought that hasn't been said before and won't be said again. I just had not heard or seen it before now.

Believing in it gave it presence. Doing it came naturally. Calculation gave it reason, and this site gives it meaning.

(next paragraph may be boring kinda need to philosophize about this a little)

Why do you or i keep coming here if everything already is? If what is, will be, and what was, is, then our answers were always within every ones reach. Until we know what it is, we look for that which we don't know, so we search where it is not. Only an exact alignment of specific events, put in place from forces beyond our comprehension, will create the next moment ( a moment stands tall, visible clearly in our fourth dimension (Time being D.#4) for every one (Impossible to undo because it always was and always will be).

.....A 22 minute TV formula could fully describe the coincidental and ironic, events that brought me to this site.

insightful individuals candidly wondering 'what if'?

Here there is, that which must be missing in a clinical setting.

......Interesting to see how this type of doctor operates. How can one make time for these weekly type Dr.s. The amount of money they make for what they do seems hmmm...

I am imagining a Car repair done in 20 equal sessions, spaced seven days from one to the next.

Being a one stop shopper I will opt out of this intrusive and overpriced practice.

If the mind mech. has a efficient method, I must conform to his schedule for a first and up to a second visit, but that is where I must draw the line. This diagnostic will cost big tax dollars for little more than a definition for (inefficiencies and quirks) that sadly seem impossible for me to fix, I hope I may be seen through more forgiving eyes, by those who sometimes seem a little tired of it all.

Ready for what ever once or twice.

These thoughts above, came through my mind. I wonder what, who played in them last is or was like? I wonder what the world will be fifty years from now.

......If I could get behind the mirror, i might see the self that has been out of my view, The people I have become acquainted with recognized it by my name and loved me just the same. Tricks will be inflicted on the Aspie type, by smart injured people always and forever, but those who love may feel (once seeing it on Dr. letterhead) that one pure in essence, living in wonder, aww, and calculation, should be allowed to be, instead of manipulated: changed, destroyed or repaired.
It has always been frustrating having trouble with some of the basics. And impossible to admit until now. And now it seems my nature to want to prove my hypothesis. And improve myself how ever.

A friend at work now seems to be looking out for me, but subtly, and seems more understanding or at peace when i'm acting aspie (always) , since i gave him some AS resources to compare.
......................................................Two and Two

I now have a better guess as to how I am making others feel. And am finding that improved awareness is helping with every aspect of my life already.

This web site is good therapy
