My bf says he wants to quit drinking and wants my help, but . . .

When he has quit drinking in the past, he's been in a lot of discomfort because of his health problems and the side effects of the meds he's on.

Alcohol is really the only thing that can get rid of the pain, so he tends to slip back into drinking again.

If he keeps drinking, he won't live much longer, but he won't be in so much pain, and may be happier.

If he quits for good, he could live a lot longer, but his quality of life probably won't be so good.

The stress of this (and being relied upon for support when I have no idea what to do) is driving me to drink.

So I just try to focus on giving him lots of emotional support. Seems like the only thing that's sure to be good at this point.

Anyone else been in a similar situation?

There is a purpose to every human condition and perversion. When used in moderation every form of behavior has a useful purpose. Your bf needs to discover the joys of masochism. I know that sounds weird but if you think about it you will see that I am right.

I was thinking the same thing, but I am not sure what they allow in Australia.
Of course here in California, you can have medical marijuana.
Then again... I'm not sure if the switch would be of any help to him... alcohol is one chemical, cannabis is another.

Sorry to hear about your situations, I do hope you maintain your own health though. Can't be of any help to someone if you allow yourself to get hurt.

Is he Aussie? What does the medical community have to help him with?

I dont know how to help, but I wish both of you the best...

I have heard of pain management and pain management clinics. I used to know a lady online who had chronic back pain.. she went to a pain management centre but I lost touch with her after that, so I dont know what happened with the therapy she underwent.

Oh dear, :? that's gotta be a hard place to be.
Sorry, haven't anything like you two's situation to be able to offer something.
I can tell y'all that I care how you are.
