I'm putting this in here as I figured tis is best placed here so here goes.

I read in an article that you are not considered an adult until

1. You are leaglly an adult
2. finacially independent
3. living on your own
4. married,
5. have a child.

Given except for the first one.....
all the others are reversable. So I guess if your child dies, spouse dies, get divorced, get bankrupt, house explodes, you are instantly a child again? You could be 100 and be one!

I guess lot of people are never adults because not all of them get married or have kids. I don't fully agree with the criteria.

I'd say the first three are correct. The last two? Nah.

I often see people on this forum bitching about their parents and how mean they are, how they don't understand and how their parents treat them like children. They're usually from people in their mid 20's (or older) who are still living with their parents. Here's an idea. MOVE OUT. : )

Where did you find this article?

But not everyone can afford to live on their own, rent is expensive. I was able to move out even though my parents didn't treat me like a child (only sometimes) because they helped me move out. I wanted out and I was on SSI then and I was given a house to live in owned by my grandfather. How many aspies have that opportunity?

"But not everyone can afford to live on their own, rent is expensive."

Life is expensive. Sure, if a kid needs a little help getting started & so on, I see no problem with the parents helping out a bit. But after that he's got to get it together. Life is hard for NT's too. We have jobs we don't always like. Bosses who are asses. Never enough money to survive. That's life. I just get sick grown adults complaining about how hard it is to live with their parents. Sometimes people with AS sound like those old pot smokers you hear about that live in their parents basements. "Hey man, I'm too good to get a crappy job. I've got a project I'm working on. Besides, rent is expensive & I hate getting hassled by a boss."

Get a crappy job & a crappy apartment & then you won't have to hear your parents nagging you. Sheesh. : )

Is that your culture? If so, that's a little different.

If that's the case, is the article you read meant to be read by people from your culture? Is so, OK, taht's one thing. If not, it has no relevance.

Again. Where did you find the article?

3 out of five, but I have been in two relationships, so that could be 4 out of 5.

That was not my question. My question was, is that your culture? Otherwise it has no relevance to you. You seem to be avoiding the question.

What publication or site did you see the article in/on? It seems goofy, quite frankly.

Growing old is compulsory, however growing UP is voluntary.

I choose not to grow up :)
