Just today I'm really feeling the age...
All this up and down and stress and depression has taken it's toll on my body this summer.
Today was the first day in a long while I've had to anything even remotely strenuous. (Drag a 800 lb trailer around the drive way several times)
I felt fine about it then and felt good for getting some exercise but just in the past couple of hours my entire legs and lower back and ache like heck. For whatever reason I was shivering at work and now that I'm home, I feel really hot. I almost didn't even want to bother walking up the stairs in my home.
I'm feeling 30 years older than I should. I feel like crap.

How do older folk even stand getting by like this? I hate thinking that I'll probably end up feeling like this when I get into my 60s.

You, my friend, are dealing with "nines" disease. My guess. A year ago I was 39, and all leading up to my birthday I had all sorts of problems. In a couple of weeks I'm turning 41. It's been a very strange year.

Be kind to yourself. It will get better.

I'd better keep living while I'm still young.

Along with the muscle soreness, it sounds to me like you have cardiovascular problems and might be a candidate for a heart attack.

Many people in your present condition at your present age never get into their 60s, and I got here by taking care of those problems before now. If you cannot take a brisk, 30-minute walk outside each day, then either find a gym you can visit or get a treadmill or stationary bike of your own. Also, grapefruit pectin is a natural "roto rooter" of sorts for arteries, and it has now helped keep me off a gurney in the ER for over 10 years.

When you're in your 60s, you'll be retired and living on your pension if things go well. You'll have less demands placed on you, and you'll be more able to do things you enjoy.

If I were you, I would start planning my retirement right now, to make sure I get enough income when I eventually get there. It's not going to alleviate your current feelings of stress and depression I know, but at least there is potentially light at the end of the tunnel.

A treadmill stress test might be a good idea--I had one not too long ago to make sure there weren't any cardiac issues.

I find it helps to ease into extremely strenuous activities--such as digging big holes in the yard come springtime. Don't try to do everything in one day. As a bonus, I find this approach lets me figure out the easy way of doing stuff--assuming I have the luxury of doing it my own pace (not always an option). Alternately, one can do strenuous activities all year long, so that you always stay in shape.

It also helps to invest in the proper tools to do the job--so you don't have to work as hard. Power tools are great if you can afford them--but take your time to make sure you don't have accidents.

i was a slug physically and mentally till age 30. for several reasons, i started running and learned to ride a bicycle.
in a year's time, my life was transformed. very little body fat, resting pule in the 39/40 range, depression was simply
GONE, aerobic capacity off the charts. I FELT WONDERFUL. i was riding about 1000 miles/month and running roughly 150 miles/month. re titanic:i'm on top of the world.

it takes DEDICATION. yard work will not do it. long, slow distance does it. heart rate up for hours, that does it.

for your trunk and arms, gym work at SLOW increases works.

as has been suggested, see a doc first, before you do anything. if you're lucky, at 60 you'll feel better than you do now. entropy cannot be stopped....but....it can be changed.

I am 57 and feel that aging is wonderful. This is the best kept secret esp for women! Our youth culture demonizes it (starting with my generation not trusting anyone over 30 - haha).

Not only am I better, but so are most of the people my age I meet.

I do think someone who feels so physically done for at 29 needs a good check up - it is not normal, you're still just a mear pup. Nutrition also make a big difference. Do you have insurance? Do you drink water and avoid pollutants? Plastic is an abomination, for example....

Maybe it is just depression. That can cause all the symptoms listed. :)

Oren is probably the one to listen to, Zara....

I believe good healthy food has magic that can cure any ill (and plastic is my omnipresent nemesis).

Luckily for me that magic food placebo really works

I'll probably be getting a check-up sometime in the next month as part of my vocational rehab stuff to rule out health problems.

I'm starting a process to change my diet some. Trying to stay away from fast food and soda, eat more veggies, reduce fat and salt intake, take vitamins. I'm planning on getting back into trail hiking next month.

Yes, I have been quite depressed throughout the summer.

Feeling creaks, squeaks, aches & pains of aging is a big improvement over being DEAD! The bleah-ness lets you know you're still alive & kicking, no matter how vigorously (or feebly). Every day above the daisies is a GOOD day!

... only up to a point. If it reaches the point when someone is in constant pain all the time, it's best to be dead. I can't see the point of staying alive if you can't enjoy your life and there's no hope of improvement.

I love aging! I love my grey hair and wrinkles!

But I have noticed that my health deteriorates quicker from periods of idleness as I get older.

Sometimes, when I'm feeling tired and depressed, I lie down and concentrate on the tingling energy in my fingers and toes, hands and feet, legs and arms and all through my body and across my scalp to the tip of my nose. That makes me feel young, alive and healthy.

But you are so young...?
