Isn't twitter a synonym for chatter? So isn't that the last place I should be? Or is it fine, since people are only talking "at" each other, no "to" each other?

Most people on Twitter are Aspies. Honestly. They're all socially awkward and weird.

LOL That's the funniest thing I've read all day and it makes perfect sense! :D

I think my twitter name is on my profile. If not, just PM me for it.

I don't get twitter at all. I'd rather have a blog where I can write as long as I want, and no one reads it, than be limited to a few words no one will read. :)

Twitter is certainly an interesting phenomenon. I'm surprised it's as popular as it is.

Anyway, if you want to follow me on twitter this is my account:

Wrong Planet also has a twitter account:

It certainly doesn't seem to be a good medium for 'talking' to people. I like it for following interesting people who can lead me to interesting ideas.

Indeed!

I think the biggest misunderstanding about Twitter is when people expect it to suffice for coffee house chit chat like forums provide or a written manifesto like blogs. It won't give you a picture of someone's life, like Facebook. It won't provide someone's professional history, like LinkedIn. Twitter is a much different animal.

There's a lot of useless content on Twitter. I'm guilty for some of it. However, there is fantastic content that's worth tapping into. It also provides a powerful social networking resource to spread the word about something very quickly to a large number of people across the globe. You maintain control over the types of content you read.

You need to see Twitter as a method of sharing links and spontaneous ideas. It can be a very effective way of getting blog posts into a wider audience.

Yes, aspies can talk to people on Twitter, as long as the discussion is focused and some social awkwardness is accepted, the latter is a given due to the character limit.

The nature of the Internet artificially creates 'pseudo autism'. Once you notice it once, you see it everywhere.

I have tried hard but I don't seem to understand the purpose of twitter.
It must serve some purpose or it would not be popular.

It seems more like a form of broadcast than communication, that is strictly one-way.
It also seems like it is overly brief. I like reading actual sentences and paragraphs.
I like to respond to what I am reading, which makes this forum great.

A continuous stream of various brief random thoughts seems more like "chatter"or "noise" than anything useful to me.

I disagree, I rarely see that effect on Facebook and most forums.

I don't see the point of Twitter either. We've got email and Web forums, so why would anybody need anything else to talk with people?

But celebrities are popular, yet they serve no purpose.

I find twitter a wonderful site/socializing tool. I don't use it to have big chats, considering there is a character limit to how many characters you can type, but I find it great for being informed of what's going on with certain celebrities, sports, podcasts, funny or interesting people/stuff, current events.. I use it as a way to have a couple laughs, ask questions to people who do online programs that I watch, and see some interesting things that I may not have if it wasn't for twitter. If it wasn't for Twitter, I would not read the newspaper. Twitter is just a nice way to stay up to date with many of your interests. It's not like Facebook, or myspace and I like that.
