I feel sorta bad about posting this here because it has nothing to do with AS. I am being continuously called by this collection
agency. First of all, I have immaculate credit. I have one credit card and I pay it off every month. My friend advised to just ignore them but I can't. He said that they will not believe anything anybody says; they will automatically assume you are a liar. He also told me I was just feeling indignant and not to dignify them by calling them up and coming off as being an annoyed, self-righteous person; all they want is money and they could care less where it comes from. Any ideas or suggestions?

Are they calling your number about another person's account or your account? If they are harassing you about an account that is not yours, you can advise them to stop calling your number or you can take legal action in court. I believe there is a telemarketing or fair collections law you can use to stop them.

I have a collection agency harassing me just now.

A company called 1&1 internet is trying to charge me for services which I never ordered, and I refused to cough up for what I regard as a scam - so now they have passed my information onto a debt collection agency, who are bothering me with e-mail and postal badgering for money.

They've taken the notion that I ought to be coughing up whatever 1&1 internet try to steal from me, as well as an additional £25 for having my case passed onto the collection company.

I have pristine credit, and have never even been in debt... I certainly don't want scammers like 1&1 internet buggering that up for me.

I made an appointment with the CAB to see them about a week and a half ago, and their earliest appointment was tomorrow.... so tomorrow morning I'm supposed to be speaking to them about it, to see what they reckon.

Hello Ladywoofwoof,
Have you searched reviews or scams about this company, the first page is filled with people complaining about 1&1 internet. Some have been ignoring these demands for years. Demands for services that were never ordered, unexplained charges or not accepting cancellations. I suggest you do not pay these people anything.
They are low life.

+1. If I remember correctly, if you pay them one cent it's an acknowledgement that you owe the debt.

The only reason I went to the CAB was because my mum insisted that it wasn't good enough for me to just ignore whatever they or the debt collection agency sent me.

At any rate, it turns out that 1&1 internet are trying to behave as though the only country in the UK is England.... which won't be to their benefit.
This means that they can threaten me with bailiffs until the world turns blue, but under Scottish law they would need to take me to court to get money out of me.

:-p Well, now I'm knackered because I only got 4 hours sleep and I'm too awake to go back to bed again.... but at least my mum is less highly strung about it all *sigh.

My god, I never realised that so many people were having the same kind of problems with these chancers.
I would place them in the same category as the corporate scamming company Ziinga.... who I regard as the absolute scum of the earth.

Before sending the debt collection agency after me, 1&1 internet told me that I should seriously consider paying them money.
So, I told them that they should seriously consider becoming crop protection operatives ; since being a scarecrow would make far better use of their obvious innate talents than their present "job" does, and probably would give greater job satisfaction.

Glad your mum can relax a bit now.

You should send these scum bags a bill for the time needed to deal with their fantasy demands.

I think this is a standard business practice for some companies, if a few people pay up they are making a profit on scare tactics.

Wish I knew how to hack into their networks, give every account a refund and then erase all files.

:-) Yes, it was worth going for peace of mind.... and it was educational to find that out about Scotland and bailiffs.
It's certainly useful to know about for the future, too !

The CAB are going to write to the debt collection agency on my behalf explaining the situation briefly and requesting that they leave me alone.

:-) I now have visions of an elite force of highly educated and talented AS white-hat hackers... dedicated to fighting for truth and justice from within corrupt companies.
That would make a good superhero comic.... heh.
