Hi ! I'm new here. Just been recently informed that I probably have aspergers. I have looked into it , researched and it explains so much about my life. To be honest it's a relief !
I am trying to get a drs appointment, but they are like gold dust to get a diagnosis started.
Thing is, I have worked at my place for four years now, the shift patterns have always caused no end of distress not to mention when they make me work an extra day on my day off ! I find the job totally draining and now I know why !
Anyway, I'm just wondering how I should approach them with regard this. Have any of you had any experience of this? I'm in a union so I'm thinking of going through them. But just wondered if I should mention anything before diagnosis ? They have recently changed the assessment criteria and I'm struggling with it as it isn't clearly defined.

Here is a link to Psychology Today. They list therapists in every area. Maybe you can find one that does Asperger's screening. Therapists/licensed clinical psychologists are way cheaper than doctors. Mine cost me $150 for an evaluation.

All my life, I had to avoid psychologists until Asperger's officially became a thing. My life finally made sense to me, and I score on the tests, but the psychologists were still reluctant to give me a diagnosis, apparently worried that it would be a license for acting as weird as I felt. A bottom-rank counselor helped uncover an attachment disorder caused by mom's AS, which is the other half of my trouble.
I don't know the situation in the UK, but Unions are usually helpful, and might accept test results even if they are not signed by an MD.
