As I was born in southern California and live among both anecdotal crowds, I can tell you all you really have to do is explain interesting stuff you've been up to and eat appetizers. Personally, I've been to parties which included everything we're discussing, save for social conservatism. Everyone I know is wild by comparison to this scenario, so I'm sitting at home pondering profitable things I should code so I can afford somewhere to host more relaxed get-togethers.
What's really key to me is taking my hospitality along wherever I go; it's easier to get along with everyone at a party if you decide in advance to help out the hosts.
