Are there any here who pickle their food with salt? I mean, really pickle it...then pickle it more?

I swell up like a balloon if I eat too much salt. but in the summer months I can get away with more, I LOVE salty food! :chef: low salt tastes like $#!+ AFAIC. I use a lot of no-salt and half-salt and 39% sodium soy sauce, in addition to lots of spices to make up for the relative lack of saltiness, to make my foods scream with flavor. I'd "pickle" stuff if I could get away with it.

I suffer from adrenal exhaustion, as do most people on the spectrum. I have a particularly bad case, and I lose a lot of salt as a result. With adrenal exhaustion, comes low blood pressure, low sodium, and salt cravings.

I EAT A LOT OF SALT. I drink a glass of himalayan pink salt water every morning, sometimes multiple times day. I add rediculous amounts of salt to my broths.

There is no such thing as too much salt, when dealing with an adrenal issue. Aspergers is an adrenal issue, and aspies generally like a lot of salt on their food.

A glass of my salt water is quadruouple the amount of salt you would find in sea water.

I also practice Amaroli, which is the Ayurvedic tradition of drinking one's own urine. Way more hydrating than a 6 pack of gatorate.

Salt is needed to create hormones necessary for repair. It also repairs the lining of the stomach, and dislodges hard stools.

^ I've got high blood pressure. But it's likely genetic, and not associated with salt intake. Actually, I think it has something to do with my autonomic dysfunction.

No, not for very long anyway. I should probably again. It's very difficult. I eat very healthy otherwise and am low-normal weight for my height.

I borrowed a page from graham kerr [aka "the galloping gourmet"] who had to learn healthy cooking for his ailing wife, he had to use every trick in the culinary book to avoid salt/sugar/fat but still make his foods palatable, and he settled on the meme of making his foods "scream with flavor" to make up for the lake of the aforementioned tasty triad. I use lots of 39% sodium soy sauce [a lifesaver!] and half-salt/no-salt and chili powder/onion powder/garlic powder/mrs dash. also lots of tomato sauce/paste as that seems to add a quasi-salty flavor to savory dishes.

I crave salt, my family and friends always made a huge fuss about how much I'd salt my food. Always said I'd die of a heart attack by thirty. My blood pressure is basically perfect though. :P

Yes, I do use low-sodium soy sauce. I also use lots of spices. I love spices, and "hot" food also. I'll just have to try reducing salt again. See what happens.

check your pressure regularly and iif your blood pressure drops too far orthostatically [under load or exertion, you will feel a "brown-out"] you may want to adjust the final general amount of sodium you get. IOW don't let it get much below 100 systolic/50 diastolic. in hot weather you will need more sodium.

pride goeth before the fall :|. I have cut back some, for instance the almonds I'm eating right now are "low sodium". I'm probably okay, I eat maybe two meals a day and half the time it's something that doesn't require salt.

:wtg: an OTC thing for blood pressure, I have found [only take it if you have hypertension] is a combo of 2 grams l-citruline and 100mg pycnogenol, daily.

My blood pressure has been as high as around 180/120. It's usually been at times when I was in pain or stressed. But it's been really high even when I've only been a bit stressed. It's usually around 135/90 to 140/100 ish. Sometimes it's normal or even low, though :?
