Hi...

I spoke recently with Alex Plank and he said it would be OK if I post this here. I'm the author of the book Unbroken Brain: A Revolutionary New Way of Understanding Addiction (St. Martins, 2016), which argues that addiction is a learning disorder, based on lots of scientific evidence. It also includes my own story of having what would once have been diagnosed as Asperger's and related depression, then becoming addicted to cocaine and heroin. I thought I was pretty unusual in having both— but there's new research suggesting that people on the spectrum can be at higher risk.

Working on an article about this for Spectrum and would love to talk to people who would be willing to share their experience of having both Asperger's and an addiction (substances, alcohol, gambling, etc.) and their thoughts about the relationship between the two. My email is [email protected]— or you can reply here with your info or thoughts (and please let me know if you are OK with being identified in the article if you share here about this).

Thanks in advance for your time and attention!
