Has anyone read Atlas Shrugged? (by Ayn Rand)

I've always found it to be relevant, but recently it has been far more meaningful.

I've read here that Aspies tend to be taken advantage of more often
because of naivety, lack of ability to navigate political double-deallings,
and serious loyalty - especially to ideas and things.

Do you find any parallels between the book and your experiences?
Right now I'm struggling with the idea that I've been taken
advantage of because I can "make things go" (computer networks)
better than most. Since I'm more competant, more is asked
of me. More is ok, up to a point, but when they ask me (and
my compatriots) to work ourselves to death or burnout, I think
they go beyond what is right.

The question becomes where is the line to say "you can't
ask more of me than this" or if there isn't a line, how do I go
on strike?

I know how you feel. I used to be the go-to guy at a previous job, and people who would talk me down behind my back would suddenly be friendly to me when they wanted me to do something for them, then go right back to gossiping and complaining about me behind my back as soon as they had gotten what they wanted. And sometimes they would, after I had figured out how to do what they needed, claim credit for my idea, that the solution had "just come to them" ! Apparently I was good enough to get ideas from but not good enough for them to admit getting help from.

I started telling them that I had tons of work waiting for me and wouldn't have time to do what they wanted, or saying "gee, that's a tough one...I don't know." when they approached me to solve some problem of theirs. I assume you've thought of that, but that's the only strategy I have used.

My view of my job is that I should read and understand the best techniques, and offer my suggestions based my self education. More often than not, my supervisor tells me "Nobody cares. Just accept it".
My parents did not raise me to be apathetic, but my supervisor makes it easy.

I went through an Ayn Rand stage. So long ago, I'm sure some of the thoughts from her are there, but for the most part couldn't quote too much of her. I do recall enjoying it and getting pretty fired up about it. Didn't take to much back then to fire me up, still doesn't actually.

Last job I had I went out on the limb big time for "workers rights". That one cost me, but I would do it again.
