This is a thread about tips for simple home repairs and taking care of our houses / living space.

Question 1 -

I keep getting water marks on my wood furniture from drinking glasses.

I know I'm supposed to use coasters, but my cats knock things over when they're slightly raised on a small surface like that. I've tried coasters and too much stuff got spilt or even broken.

Yes I have placemats in a few spots but they aren't practical everywhere and I drink a lot of water.

Google says to use a mild abrasive like salt but it doesn't do anything.

Most of these rings are bright white but they usually disappear when they dry.
I'd rather wipe them off when they happen, but they won't wipe off.

Ideas?

Also how to hang pictures that are in mats, but not frames?

They won't rub off when they're wet.
The moisture has gone through the furniture finish.
If it's still visible when dry, try rubbing it with a walnut.
This works for scratches too.

you should be able to purchase double sided tape, with little hangy things ... there's lots of ideas and doodads out there when google searching "mat board wall mounts". someone even used binder clips and wire (! !)

Craft places often sell cheap frames on sale.
You can buy cheap stuff at 2nd hand place just for the frame.
Or attach the mat to some cheap artwork and use the artwork as a background.

You can roll a piece of tape sticky side up and attach it to itself and use it as double sided tape.

If the pictures are firmly attached to the mats and won't just fall out, an option is any brand of "poster putty." It's typically a white semi-gooey substance a bit like soft bubble gum that you break a piece of with your fingers and squish it flat and it sticks to both a poster/mat and a painted wall no problem. Doesn't leave any marks or anything removing it and no holes in the poster or wall like tacks or pins. There are many brands - just google poster putty and see. Very inexpensive and goes a long way and can be reused.
